A set of teacher notes that I created over the summer in preparation for first teaching of the Edexcel unit: Unification of Italy, 1830-1870. The notes follow the order of the Hodder text book by Podesta; however, both the Pearson and Access to History books have been used to supplement this information. The date range begins in c.1815 to give some context in the run up to the 1830 Edexcel start date. This resource is intended to be used as a start point for teachers who are new to this topic; they will find even more information in the text books listed above. The resource has been created using Word 2013 in its Notebook layout, so the formatting may be slightly different if opened in a print layout format.

A full week/two weeks of resources for teaching the impact of war on migration to Britain to Year 9 (could also be adapted for a more-able Year 8 class, if pursuing a three-year GCSE course). This is part of a wider ‘Empires and Migration’ topic and also includes an examination of the Windrush. Included is a lesson pack covering this aspect of a scaffolded ‘Empires and Migration’ topic (brought down from GCSE - other lesson packs available on my shop!) Resources relating to the AQA 9-1 GCSE Option ‘Russia, 1894-1945’. Included is 2-3 lessons’ worth of activities tackling the Russian Civil War and why the Reds were victorious. The PowerPoint includes teaching information, copies of the worksheets, sources and videos (where relevant). There are also practice exam questions included in the slide (usually 1-2 per topic). Resources relating to the Great Reform Act of 1832. These can be used as part of a wider unit of work on electoral reform (perhaps leading in to women's suffrage?) Included is a summary of the Great Reform Act; a task where pupils have to differentiate between the voting systems of 1830 and 1835; and a PowerPoint presentation for the lesson. Also referenced are two political cartoons that show a for/against view of reform. These should be printed out and distributed for pupils to analyse during the lesson. This is a great introduction to political cartoons, which are used extensively at GCSE.

Resources relating to the AQA 9-1 GCSE Option ‘Elizabethan England: 1568-1603’. Included are 2-4 lessons’ worth of activities tackling Elizabeth’s government (Privy Council, Royal Court and Parliament) The PowerPoint includes teaching information, copies of the worksheets, sources and videos (where relevant). Five Powerpoint presentations introducing the study of witchcraft for A Level students. I used these as part of the AQA Historical Enquiry module (hence the date range, as it is roughly 100 years between two Acts). I now intend to use these for the new OCR Popular Culture and the Witchcraze unit to introduce some of the key topics. These presentations are designed to be a starting point for anybody wishing to study the early modern witch craze. Due to the breadth of the topic, there is inevitably going to be more information that can be added to these. Please note that these are just basic introductions to the topic and should be supplemented with other resources.

A fun task to consolidate pupils' understanding of heraldry. I used this with my Year 7 pupils alongside the KS3 text book by Aaron Wilkes. Students will need to be introduced to what Heraldry is before moving on to this task. They are provided with tables that detail the various colours/animals/symbols that can be found on Coat of Arms. They then have to think of their own and answer questions. Also included is a blank shield where students can design their own Coat of Arms with a motto (we used the tables for this, e.g. 'Honesty. Strength. Loyalty.'

Two worksheets for KS3/KS4 to encourage students to analyse/evaluate visual sources. The content relates to the Suffragettes and the sources show the Women's Suffrage movement in a positive and negative light. Students are tasked with describing the sources, picking out key symbols and inferences. The grid would be a useful group activity where students can analyse the pictures in groups and rotate these every few minutes; the postcard task can then be set for homework.

An essential timeline for the new AQA GCSE topic: Restoration England, 1660-1685. Included are the key dates and events from the text book and from wider research (that top level students will be expected to carry out). This resource can be used for reference purposes, revision or mini tests in class time.

This resource is intended to be used as part of a much larger bundle for this unit. See my shop for more details. A source-based worksheet for students studying the OCR unit: Popular Culture and the Witchcraze. Students are given extracts from the three Witchcraft Acts of the period (the 1736 Act is not included) and they have to answer questions based on the content. I have not changed the language or spelling contained in the sources as I feel this is an effective way of familiarising students with the study of History through sources. The answers to the questions are relatively straightforward and are contained in the text book.

Based around two units from a Year 7 SOW focusing on Norman England (this can be found in my shop). Students are given a range of 1 or 2 mark knowledge questions on dates/names/events/definitions associated with The Battle of Hastings and Norman England. This form of assessment would be in addition to knowledge and source essays to practise the skills required for studying History. Also included is a sheet with answers to all of the questions. The test is 35 questions long (35 marks).
