I provide a wide range of resources for use in the classroom and around school. My resources build on children's learning and consider the smaller steps children need to take to achieve the learning. My resources have a focus on 'mastery' style questions where possible, to develop children's critical thinking and reasoning skills. As a practicing primary teacher myself, I know how essential it is to have well organised lesson resources with engaging activities that focus on the learning.

We are learning to understand the dangers posed by online communication. Learning focuses around using email safely. Children learn about dangerous emails that trick you into opening them e.g. 'you have won a prize...' A lot of learning is about the dangers of unknown attachments and the harm a virus can do to a devise. Link to a video to hook children. Lots of questioning to extend thinking and opportunities for discussion. Two choices of activity for differentiation.

A set of 26 scenarios that children/ teenagers may be facing on social media to stimulate discussion/debate on what is and is not acceptable on social media. Covers a range of scenarios, from making social media accounts private, to sharing photos, cyber bullying and fake new - plus much more. Some scenarios are a clear no-no, whilst some are less clear cut and some are acceptable. Could be used as a set or to use over a period of time to keep e-safety fresh in the children's minds.

Roman Houses Reading Comprehension KS2

(0)
Two differentiated reading texts on Roman houses, both with comprehension questions (between 15 and 20). I wrote these for my Y4 class. Most of the class did the MA text and I edited the text/questions to a lower level for a group of children with some difficulties in reading. They could also be used in Y3 or Y5. The children were very interested in the texts and as they had to think carefully and answer the retrieval questions, they learnt a lot about Roman houses, which was brilliant for our topic work.

KS2 Online Safety - Online Gaming Communication

(1)
We are learning to understand the dangers of communicating on online gaming. Lesson plan, PowerPoint and link to video to hook children and make learning relevant and real to them. Lots of deep thinking questions to encourage children to consider how they communicate in games; when it is and is not ok to communicate in games. Touches on online bullying and teaches children to block or report abuse. Focus on what personal information is and not sharing this in the online world. Choice of follow up task. Plenary provides opportunity for peer assessment. My class were absolutely hooked on this lesson and had fantastic discussions. They went home being much more aware of how to keep themselves safe when gaming.
Self Assessment and Peer Assessment
Squelch1Squelch1

Self Assessment and Peer Assessment

(0)
Self and Peer assessment forms to encourage children to critically consider the learning that they or their partner has achieved and give praise for these by identifying what has gone well. Children also become more aware of the presentation of their work. Encourages children to think about giving constructive feedback to themselves or a peer and set a target to work toward next time. Children are much more engaged in remembering and responding to such targets. Can be edited to include specific learning objectives or success criteria, hence this resource can be used for any lesson. Helps you identify what children really know about their learning and how well they are doing. A great edition to children's books to for book scrutiny or inspections, particularly in line with the 2014 curriculum. Could support your marking, cutting down the time you spend on marking. Used very effectively across KS2 and has really improved children's thinking about their own work. They no longer finish work and never look back over it again. It has really started children talking about their work. For less able children, a class discussion before hand about what learning may look like and possible targets to set has been helpful.

Y4 States of Matter - Reversible and Irreversible Changes - Lesson 5 (Resources, PP and Planning)

(0)
Lesson PowerPoint, planning and Activity The fifth in a series of lessons to develop children's knowledge about 'States of Matter,' for the 2014 primary curriculum. Links to coverage of the curriculum are explicit in the planning (for both States of Matter and Working Scientifically) We are learning to understand what is meant by an irreversible change. An interesting zoomed in image for the starter, to develop children's critical thinking and reasoning. Recaps, revisits and builds on children's prior knowledge from previous lessons. Revisits reversible changes. Develop's children's scientific knowledge of irreversible changes and is relevant to children by giving examples from every day life. Two fun investigations for children to complete, whilst developing their understanding of irreversible changes. Equipment list for the investigations is provided in planning and on PowerPoint. Step by step modelling of the experiments are modeled on the PowerPoint. Further 'mastery' thinking required for deepening and mastering learning, through thought provoking questions etc. Activity is on the PowerPoint and requires photographs of the experiments to be taken during the lesson (for this reason, you may find it easier to complete this part of the lesson at a later time). 30 spelling lists for year 4. Well organised. Each spelling list covers a specific rule from the year 4 curriculum. Note, as the spelling curriculum for year 3 is merged with year 4, I have separated the spellings into two separate year groups. Each spelling has space for children to find out what the word means and then use the word in a sentence, so as they learn more about the word than just the spelling. Easy to use in class and can be used easily alongside spelling lessons/other resources for learning spellings. Also useful to help you identify spelling rules to teach. Sheets can be sent home to help children with learning their spellings. These have also been used for recap work in years 5/6. Children may need to recap the spelling work from year 3.
