Chinese New Year. Whole School Assembly

(0)
We are ExcitEd to share a fun interactive assembly plan to celebrate Chinese New Year. This download includes: A detailed assembly script, with details about the Chinese New Year festival and an interactive storytelling of the traditional Chinese Folk Tale, ‘The Great Race’. A PowerPoint assembly presentation to accompany the script. (16 slides) Assembly entrance and exit music (Embeded into PowerPoint and links to free MP3 download.) Printable images of all zodiac animals to be used during interactive storytelling. Assembly Content: Starting with calming instrumental Chinese inspired music, children can take their places in the hall. A brief welcome is followed by a true or false quiz to introduce the assembly’s focus - Chinese New Year. (Also referred to as Luna New Year or Spring Festival.) After some information about the festival, where, how and why it is celebrated, there is an interactive storytelling of the traditional folk tale, "The Great Race’. This traditional Chinese tale explains to children how the new years came to be named after animals. Teacher’s should print the included prop cards to use during the story telling. Children could be chosen in advance or on the day to take on the roles of the animals. There is no need for rehearsals as this is completely led by the story teller and the children are given instructions as part of the story telling. The accompaning PowerPoint presentation shows illustrations and text to go alongside the story and could be used as an ebook. At the close of the assembly, the current or upcoming Chinese New Year animal is revealed and some information about it is shared. (this information can be edited so that the assembly can be used each year.) Finally, teachers wish the children good fortune and happiness in the new year using the Cantonese phrase, Gong hei fat choi. The exit music is again a calming Chinese inspired song called Gong hei Fat choi. The assembly should last approximately 15 - 20 minutes. Primary French. Tricolore Game. Revise colours and learn about the French flag.

(1)
We are excited to share this fun game which allows children to revise colours in French and learn a little more about the French flag - The Tricolore. With clear instructions and printable resources included, this game is simple to set up and fun to play. Would be a great starter or plenary game, or as part of a whole school French day. Aimed at KS2 where children will be formally learning a language, but could easily be used in KS1 to introduce French learning to younger children. “Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures. A high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world.” The National Curriculum 2014 We bring you effective, teacher made, fun and creative resources for use in primary schools linked to the English National Curriculum. KS2 Art Day. Blossom Painting. Planning and Resources

(0)
We are ExcitEd to share a full, painting focused, art day! Including detailed planning, PowerPoint lesson presentations, wit starter and plenary activities, plus all printable resources. Key questions and tips are also included throughout the lesson presentation. Additional extension activities, worksheets and a display pack add to this comprehensive set of resources. This is a reflective art day looking at cherry and plum blossom in East Asian culture, how it is portrayed in art and what it represents. Developed originally for use with year 5 during spring term, but could be used in any KS2 class. This resource focuses on building work in children’s sketchbooks and upon them developing their brush skills using both water colour and then acrylic paints. (Although the type of paint could be adapted easily.) National Curriculum Links: Art Day Contents: Starting with details of the cultural significance of cherry and plum blossom trees in Japan and China. Followed by a virtual gallery trip to look at traditional East Asian art. A nature walk is also a good stimulus to further inspire children. Throughout the day, opportunities are planned for children to develop their brush skills and also to adapt and build upon their ideas for their final piece of work. By the end of the art day / block of lessons children will have filled several pages of their art sketchbooks and have a final piece inspired by the days work ready for display. The final outcome is a blossom painting inspired by traditional cherry and plum blossom paintings from China and Japan. An extension activity allowing children to explore writing Chinese characters and perhaps adding them to their final piece of work is included as a work sheet. This resource could very easily be adapted to 5 or 6 shorter lessons with the same outcome if a whole art day was not possible. Sentence Writing for KS1. Lesson & Resources. That's Not My Dragon.

(0)
We are ExcitEd to share a fabulous literacy lesson for KS1. Focusing on developing children’s knowledge and correct use of sentences and creating a class book linked to the Usborne touchy feely book ‘That’s Not My Dragon.’ This approximately 1hr stand-alone lesson, has been planned for children working in Year 1 and using the National Curriculum. Although, it would also be suitable for year 2 classes in need of support with accurate sentence writing. TAF statements have been used to differentiate this lesson for children working towards, at the expected level or at greater depth. This download includes: A detailed lesson plan with links to the National Curriculum. A PowerPoint presentation to support the lesson. Printable sentence building cards for use in the main part of the lesson. A printable book page template / Worksheets - differentiated Support Materials - Differentiated word banks and sentence builder cards. Printable dragon colouring images. The objective of this lesson is for all children to write accurate sentences about their own dragons. Most children will then extend their simple sentences with ‘and’ and some will create compound sentences using ‘but’ and ‘so’. The main teaching of the lesson starts with an adult led reading of ‘That’s Not My Dragon’ with the reveal of the teacher’s dragon at the end of the book. This acts as a hook for the lesson. During the lesson, the rules for sentence writing are reviewed and then children are asked to help physically create sentences about the teacher’s dragon using sentence building cards. (Included). To accompany and enhance the lesson a PowerPoint presentation is included. All visuals have dyslexia friendly styling, with a clear and simple format. The lesson plan has also been broken down alongside each corresponding PPT slide in the notes to support lesson delivery. To create your class book, a page template is included. 2 versions, each with a dragon image to colour, but one version with a sentence starter already included and the other without the sentence starter and more space for children to write. Alternatively, separate dragon colouring images are also included if you wish for children’s writing and colouring to be done separately. In their independent work, children working towards the expected standard are supported with a word bank and sentence building cards, similar to the class activity. Support materials are also included for children working at the expected level or at greater depth. These are appropriately differentiated to include a wider range of vocabulary and conjunctions and can be used at your discretion We have found this to be a fun lesson with a fantastic outcome that children often like to revisit when in the class library. We are ExcitEd! Follow us on Facebook for more ideas and freebies. This resource was updated following teacher feedback.
