This activity can be used to help children understand the difference between old and new toys. Children are presented with several pictures. They are encouraged to talk about each picture, discussing what they can see, and whether they think the toy is old or new and why. Children can then glue the pictures onto the correct side. This activity develops children’s speaking and listening skills along with their understanding of time. It is advisable to show children a selection of old and new toys before completing this activity, so they can see the difference between them.

A great way of introducing set 1 sounds to your children. These help to support fine motor control and reinforce the letter sound and rhyme that is taught during an RWI phonic lesson.

If you teach RWI phonics to your pupils, then this item is a must. This product can be used as a wall display or a visual prompt on your child’s table. It consists of two sides: Set one sounds Set two and three sounds This is a great resource to support your pupils during their reading and writing sessions. It is bright and colourful and is very child friendly.

Children love to be independent, especially when it comes to making their own sandwich. After making a jam sandwich with your children, why not get them to write instructions, and order the sequence for others to make a jam sandwich? This 4 page activity includes the following: 6 pictures showing the different stages of making a jam sandwich which can be cut up and used to sequence the order, along with key words to use if writing instructions. For children learning the phase 2 tricky words this product is ideal. Children colour the tricky words the same as the coloured words at the top. It is good to encourage children to say the word they have found whilst colouring it so it is embedded.

I created this tool to help teachers know what sound each child had been taught throughout the day and a prompt for pinny time. This resource was also useful for parents to understand what their child had been taught and a great tool for children’s self esteem - being rewarded with a sticker after the lesson.

This 4 page resource consists of the tricky words found in phase 2-5. This activity can be sent home for children to practice reading each phase. Once they know the word they can colour. It can be used as an assessment tool to show words children know. Each phase is coloured a different colour so it’s easy to follow.

Are you teaching RWI at your setting? This great resource is ideal to use in your continuous provision or to send home with your pupils. Consisting of the set 1 sounds, pictures, and rhymes this is great to encourage your child to learn and write the sound. The grey letter is to be used to trace over - I suggest creating a rainbow letter, so encourage the children to form the letter using lots of colours. Then move onto writing their own letters below. It is important that they say the rhyme as they write the letter.

These useful RWI inspired stickers can be used when teaching Set 2 RWI sounds. They can be used as a reminder to the child and parent of what sound has been taught during that day. Plus a reward that can be given to each child to show that they have been successful during the lesson. This product is also useful for the teacher or teaching assistant to see what sound each child had been learning during their phonic lesson, if they’d been to a different member of staff.
