A collection of 3 practice SATs SPaG papers for year 6. All three papers are based on a past SPaG paper 1. Each practice paper contains 50 questions focussing on a range of punctuation and grammar. Answers are also included. This includes tenses, sentence types, semi-colons, colons, brackets, hyphens, commas, subordinate clauses, prefixes, word classes, apostrophes, pronouns, synonyms and antonyms. The questions are formatted in the same way as the SATs papers, so the children are asked to circle, tick, fill in the missing gap and write full sentences. A collection of 10 worksheets, 10 activities and 10 starters (in the form of a PowerPoint) to use with your year 6 class in the run-up to SATs. The ten topics covered are those that my class were finding difficult, so I decided they needed a bit of extra revision! The worksheets use questions that are based on the SATs SPaG papers, plus a few extras. The activities are perfect for group work and prepare your class for SATs in a more interactive way. The slideshow can be used for fillers, starters or plenaries. You can also put the three together to make 30 minute lessons on these tricky topics! For example, start with the slideshow to recap prepositions, before splitting your class into groups to do the interactive activity. Finish with an individual worksheet to check each child’s understanding. This resource is a comprehension booklet aimed at Lower Key Stage 2 (7-9 yrs). It is a playscript adapted from Shakespeare’s play of** A Midsummer Night’s Dream**. The story is a romance and comedy and covers the themes of love, mistaken identities and magic. The story has been adapted so that is is suitable for ages 7-9. There are three differentiated booklets. The higher booklet has three pages of text for the children to read before they complete a range of questions based on a mixture of the KS1 and KS2 SATs. The middle and lower ability booklets have the text split into separate pages with questions on each page. A set of 10 PowerPoint activities to help prepare your class for the Phonics Screening Check. Each PowerPoint includes 40 words, one on each slide. 20 words are pretend or ‘alien’ words and 20 are real words. They are organised in the same way as the screening check, starting with four simple phase 2 words, before moving on to phase 3, 4 and 5 and concluding with more complex words. Get your class to call out together or choose targeted children to decode the words. Fit in during 5 minute gaps or use during a phonics lesson to make sure your entire class are prepared for the screening check!

This is a presentation on the poet, musician and writer, Benjamin Zephaniah. Use it as part of a lesson or for an assembly for KS2, KS3 or KS4. The presentation covers his childhood, early success, world tours, music, children’s poetry and current work. The last part of the presentation includes some interesting questions to provoke discussion and a list of some of his books. Please note there are no photos of Benjamin Zephaniah included, owing to copyright restrictions. A fascinating, inspirational poet, who would be perfect to study during Black History Month.
