Another FULL Micro:bit lesson. I actually used the spare devices supplied by the BBC to deliver this lesson for Year 6 induction recently. Equally ideal for year 7 or 8 ICT/Computing groups. The PowerPoint, handout and attached code get the students to program a decision maker on their Micro:bit device. So, when shook, the device provides a random answer to the question the student asks - quite fun! Everything needed, including extra challenges to stretch the top end or step by step support for lower ability groups. A review of the lesson objectives at the end is also included. Instructions for teachers on how to create and use look up tables within Excel to calculate grades from scores automatically. Equally, you might use these instructions when teaching this skill to students. I hope these instructions are fairly straight forward. I used Excel 2013 for the print screens, though the skill is similar in whatever Excel version is being used. Great for staff training. ALL staff should know how to do this to save time when tracking data. Enjoy!

I would say, however, that this resource is ideally suited to upper KS2 / lower KS3. This resource is a FULL lesson which introduces Mean Average. All four averages lessons are listed separately OR as one short unit of work at a discounted price, just check my other resources! The PowerPoint goes through what mean average is/how it's calculated. It then has two examples that can be done with your class (teacher led) - all answers are on the PowerPoint too. After each of the teacher led examples is one that students need to try themselves (these are labelled 'try it' on the PowerPoint). These are at the top of the worksheet. Students could try these, with help if needed - this could even be done is pairs. Finally, there's an independent task that has ten examples for students to calculate. These include numbers in the thousands, so differentiation by task is possible. Some answers include decimals. An answer sheet is provided for the teacher too. The lesson is reviewed by students feeding back at the bottom of their handout. All images are either royalty free or made by myself (those coins took some work!). Enjoy ;-)

FULL lesson on Business Communication Methods (no lesson plan, just worksheets in booklet). These are best used AFTER you’ve taught, or at least introduced, verbal/non-verbal communication and internal/external communication. I actually mark page 2 of the booklet as a test out of 20 to assess understanding of the topic. Space on the front for teacher assessment WWW and EBi. Starter - Identify the methods of communication from the images. Peer marked. Extension - think of more methods of communication Main - Questions (after teaching) on verbal/non-verbal and internal/external communication Main 2 - Give a suitable method of communication for Review (or second lesson) - rate methods of communication on speed, cost and whether receipt is confirmed. A quick and easy starter activity. Students need to name the parts of a computer (leading to my lesson on input, output or storage devices which is also available in my resources). Enjoy!

This activity gets students to complete a profit and loss account for the fictional, Shake it up. Students must use all the data on the handout to complete the various activities. This is part of a differentiated task - there are three handouts which you might give to all students to complete in succession, or group students based on ability. If basing on ability, this is not the most challenging of the activities.

Ideally printed on A3, students write about each part of the computer shown in the boxes and label the parts they can see. Space for teacher feedback and a gap task/extension/homework task to find one more part of the computer and define/label it. I've used this with year 7, but equally would suit up to GCSE and as low as year 5/6. Enjoy!

This resource REALLY cuts down on your marking workload and acts as an effective starter to a lesson once a piece of work/section of work has been marked/reviewed. Follow this process… Print this resource on A4 paper (or A3 if you’re going to write a lot). ‘Tick and Flick’ mark each piece of work/book for a whole class or particular group of students. As you’re going through, note your comments on the sheet within one of the sections below. Praise (What Went Well) Misconceptions/Common Errors Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar Even Better If Presentation DIRT Activity/Activities Once complete, photocopy a sheet for all students to glue into their books or attach to their work. In the following lesson, students should action the DIRT activity. You should also display this sheet (if scanned in) as a discussion point/starter. Your marking has been reduced… very effectively too! TIPS: Students LOVE to be named on this sheet, as everyone in the class gets a copy! Name particular students within the relevant sections of the marking tool sheet. Don’t use this for EVERY piece of marking you do! This is designed to reduce the marking you do, not obliterate it! Choose when this tool will work well for you and your class. Print a bank of these off so they’re easily at hand.

THIS RESOURCE USES PYTHON VERSION 3. There are subtle differences between version 2 and 3, I believe. It's free to download though, so maybe update your systems. This is the 4th lesson in the series of my new resources on Python Programming. I'm teaching this to low ability year 9, though I know my higher ability year 7 would love it and I've also seen Python used within some primaries. It's suitable for any novice programming teacher (like me!). This lesson introduces Boolean logic and writing if statements in Python. The lesson is fully resourced and will last at least a full hour, if not longer. If you're an absolute beginner, this is ideal. Just read it through and print before teaching - that's it! PowerPoint also includes articles colour coded to further support teaching of masculine/feminine words. An introduction to organisation/organization charts. This resource includes a lesson PowerPoint (full lesson), three differentiated activities with increasing difficulty and a lesson review (exit note). Teachers could either give students the sheet to draw all three charts or give students different examples to complete based on ability, which is why there are different versions. Teachers may also wish to get students to create the charts themselves OR could use the templates provided - or lower ability students could be provided with the templates. A FULL lesson that introduces your students to four network topologies (bus, ring, star and mesh). The PowerPoint will equally double as a really useful resource for revision, if printed or made available electronically to your learners. Lesson plan and student handout included which asks them to draw topology diagrams and give advantages/disadvantages of each topology. Enjoy!

This resource depends on you teaching Business Ownership first (sole traders, partnerships and companies). Students should be given a printed version of the puzzle (the one with two pages). I get them to work in pairs as they can both be cutting at the same time to reduce ‘cutting time’. They both cut out one of the pages then get to work creating a triangle solution by connecting matching statements. There is only ONE way the puzzle will become a triangle correctly, so it’s trial and error but a GREAT task to consolidate learning of Business Ownership topic. I then get learners to stick their puzzles down on A3 paper (two sheets, because it just sticks over one A3 page). Alternatively, you could cut the puzzle and laminate for year on year use. I’ve included the solution. To ensure ALL students can access it, I print the solution on A3 paper and stick it in the corridor. Each pair gets a few chances to go out and take a peek, if needed. Finally, I’ve included a plenary to review the tarsia puzzle and a homework true or false activity on Business Ownership, this might work well as a homework task to see what students have learnt from the puzzle.
