Adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators

(0)
An extremely useful PowerPoint clearly demonstrating how to add and subtract fractions with different denominators. This has successfully been used as a lesson introduction giving the children opportunities to follow the steps to solve their own problems on individual whiteboards.

Properties of 2D shapes

This resource is extremely informative. It includes the names of polygons in a table format, as well as defining and giving examples of perpendicular and parallel lines. The different angle types are given, also with visual examples. On the second page, lines of symmetry and rotational symmetry are defined, again with examples. This resource successfully supports children, allowing them to be independent learners. This resource would be useful within lessons where shapes are compared such as with the use of Carroll and Venn diagrams. This is a two-page Microsoft Word document.

This worksheet uses rectangles that the children colour to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. Very clear to support understanding. Answer sheets included.

Adding and subtracting fractions MA

This worksheet is aimed at MA children. They are required to convert one fraction so that the denominators are the same in order to add and subtract. Answer sheet included.

2-set Venn diagrams comparing properties of shape

(0)
A set of four 2-set Venn diagrams comparing the properties of shape, e.g. perpendicular lines, parallel lines and regular shapes. For each question, shapes are provided which can either be cut out and glued in the correct position or, alternatively, the shapes’ names can be written in the correct place, or both! This activity is aimed at middle ability Year 4 children, though can be used in other year groups. Answer sheets are included. This activity has been produced using Microsoft Word.

2D shape mats

A useful word mat to support the understanding of 2D shapes. Regular 2D shapes are shown and named, ranging from circle to decagon. The different types of triangle and quadrilateral are displayed together also. The terms regular and irregular are explained with examples given. This resource has successfully been used within my own lessons and has supported children, especially with activities which require children to compare properties of shape, like Carroll and Venn diagrams. This is a 2-page Microsoft Word document.
