Alphablocks - CVC word families 'en' and 'et' match to picture game - phonics

Children love Alphablocks and they are brilliant at helping young kids learn to read. I have found using these instantly recognisable characters in class help children on their initial journey of learning to read. In this game, that children can access independently on the board, children have the word family ‘en’ or ‘et’ endings already shown on screen. This is surrounded by five pictures, so when an Alphablock friend joins the ‘en’ or ‘et’ to make a word, the child needs to read this and click on the correct picture that matches the word. The game indicates if they make the right choice but also if they have done it wrong. They cannot move to the next picture until they click on the correct initial sound. At the end of the game it then cycles back to the beginning so you do not have to keep getting up to restart it too. Its a lovely addition to your enhanced learning environment during literacy lessons or phonics activities.

Little Red Riding Hood - Goal CVC words independent game - powerpoint

This powerpoint/indpendent game matches the resource I made with bottle tops. The idea is that the child has to click on the correct letter sounds to make a CVC word. The powerpoint is set up to tell them if they got it wrong (a goalie saves the kick) or right, when the ball is kicked into the goal. Words like red, nan, bad are used for the words that are all phase 2 words. Children can access this resource independently and is great for anyone who loves football. Reading is a ‘silent’ process for many children. When first learning they do not possess the ability to imagine what the written word is telling us. They have many, many other skills they have to master before they can get there. This resource is aimed at beginner readers to try and put some fun into reading and creating words. The picture cards are double should be double backed so they have a picture on one side that they can make a word to match it or they have the actual word they can copy. With a picture to help young children visualise what they are reading, they have a purpose to reading it too and not just going through the motions. This resource is designed to be used independently, but can obviously be used as a teaching aid too.

These resources were used to great effect. Each number has around 40 slides on the powerpoint, working everyday for around 5 minutes on a few slides. Monday: They start off recognising the number, counting movements or objects. Tuesday and Wednesday They then move onto recognising different ways to show the number using Ten Frames with a number of different pictorial representations. Thursday They then move onto recognising bigger and smaller numbers before going onto one more and one less. Friday They end the week with quick problem solving activities.

Little Wandle phase 2 Aut2 revision peg boards - word and sentence match to pictures-over 100 boards

Little Wandle is amazing at helping the top children read fluently. I am finding though, even with the extra interventions daily, that some children just cannot keep up with the pace of the scheme. I made these boards to support children for phase 2. Each separate grapheme has six different boards. On one side of the board has one of six different words, that mostly match the words read in the planning (some were just impossible to find a matching picture) and then each of these sides has six identical pictures. These pictures match to one of the words the child will read. They can then use a peg to place it over this - using pegs helps with fine motor. The second side of the board has a sentence, which uses the word on the previous side. This sentence will match to one of the three pictures under it. Again children can use a peg to indicate which is accurate - a little comprehension work with fine motor skills. I folded each print out in half and then laminated them so children can use them over and over again.

A quick note that the vowels on these boards are the middle CVC phonemes, and that some phonemes in the CVC words have both initial sound boards and end sounds boards like t - ten or net. The second side of the board has a sentence, which uses the word on the previous side. This sentence will match to one of the three pictures under it.
