Disability Roleplay (Lesson 3 of 3)

(1)
This was a lesson to encourage students to think about different disabilities, their prejudices and how people with disabilities still achieve amazing things. I hope its useful.
Lego Olympics

Lego Olympics

(2)
We used the Lego Mindstorms Robots for this, but you could use any Turtle or robot to compete in an Olympics. Simply put, we got students from neighbouring Primary Schools to come in and compete for the honour of winning the Robo Olympics. It was a lot of fun and I hope the resource inspires you to do something...
Comprehensive Lesson Plan

Comprehensive Lesson Plan

(6)
Due to popular demand, here is a copy of the 'comprehensive' lesson plan I used during my PGCE. It is a blank plan designed to be very comprehensive and it ensured that I covered as many of the standards as possible. With the template, each lesson took about 15 minutes to make. Of course feel free to take a Pick and Mix approach. I&'ve also included a link to my page on seating layouts for those who are interested, which includes a zipped set of WMF drawing files for use in Microsoft Office.
Using Word Clouds for SEN & as prompts

Using Word Clouds for SEN & as prompts

(1)
Word Clouds are a great way to share vocabulary without making an obvious writing frame. Students with SEN can access the vocabulary and other students will appreciate the design. Not only that, but words at different angles make it more interesting to read and encourage dyslexic students to turn words around to visualise letters appropriately. Also different fonts can be used for easy reading. I've shown an example, which can be used for planning a holiday in England. There are also visual prompts included too. The tool Wordle makes it easy to make your own. (Free Website)

Made in Britain Episode 1

(1)
This guide accompanies the first episode of the series with exercises for students to do, before, during and after watching the video. It also provides a timeline, so that you can split the video appropriately. (You will need a copy of the episode for this resource to be useful)

Creating Infographics.Handling data. Powerpoint.

(4)
This tutorial introduces infographics, which are used widely by communication professionals to share information and in some cases argue their case persuasively. I set this up to encourage year 7's to use Spreadsheets effectively, but this is even more useful for introducing staff to the idea of processing information into digestible chunks especially for Mathematics. Very useful for dyscalculia students.
Zap bad Guys (Scratch)

Zap bad Guys (Scratch)

(1)
Fun little tutorial to teach all the things pupils want to do in Scratch, move, baddies and directional lasers. The videos are silent and the link is to the finished game on the Scratch Website. However most importantly it gives students the basic code to do their own ideas...
Advertising Agencies

Advertising Agencies

(3)
This lesson focuses on the role of advertising agencies and what they can do for a company. In the original plan I gave students material to read, but you might prefer to allow them to do a Web-hunt to analyse the role of the agency.
Choosing colours for a PowerPoint

Choosing colours for a PowerPoint

(1)
You might be surprised by what colour combinations students respond to. I have a number of SEN students that find certain colour combinations far easier to read. Great SEN tool to help students find most comfortable colour combinations. This can also be used in ICT to help students think about design combinations for PowerPoint.

This is a guide to branding for GCSE Business Studies complete with lesson plan. I hope it is useful.
Make Your Own Elasticity Problem with Sample

Make Your Own Elasticity Problem with Sample

(2)
As a follow up to an Elasticity class I got the students to make their own Elasticity problems. The resulting effort I thought was good enough to use for teaching and shows how much effort students can put into their work. This can either be used as a straight worksheet or an example for others to make their own scenarios. I hope this is useful.
Web Design on the topic of Web Safety (Kompozer)

Web Design on the topic of Web Safety (Kompozer)

(2)
This is a complete Web Design module that can be used in Keystage 3 or as a refresher in Keystage 4. It uses the free software, Kompozer which is a WYSIWYG designer but enables you to see the code at a glance. In the module students design a Web Safety site, helping them to understand how to use the web safely. There are links to the software, the sample site and the planning lesson. (Videos are silent) Please be warned that students have made Internet safety disclosures during these lessons. Be prepared.
Sentencing Lesson

Sentencing Lesson

(1)
This lesson shows real crimes and the punishments that people get from them. My law students thoroughly enjoyed the lesson and were quite surprised by the leniency of most judges...
Automatic Marking

Automatic Marking

(2)
Automated marking has saved me weeks of time and enabled me to achieve quantifiably better results. This guide shows teachers how they can use automatic marking to improve formative and summative assessment. There's no theory here, just how to do it step by step.
How to Quickly Make Comics

How to Quickly Make Comics

(2)
This little presentation introduces Cartoon Story Maker. A great little application made by the Victorian State Government. The entire presentation was made using it and the first link shows you the end result it saves. The other link is to download the software for yourself. (Requires Adobe Flash to use)
Computer Game Ratings
james_abelajames_abela

Computer Game Ratings

(2)
These worksheets teach students about the ratings systems for games and how appropriate different games are for children. These worksheets would be useful as part of a Games Design project in ICT and in PSHE and citizenship in teaching children to be responsible about what games they play. Also added a link to the Games Based Learning collection.
Creating Gantt Charts using free software

Creating Gantt Charts using free software

(4)
This little tutorial shows you how to make a Gantt chart using the free software GanttProject. It's a lot easier to introduce project management concepts when they don't have to be bogged down with the complex Maths involved or use software that's not really designed to do it.
