Discussion text planning/ IWB slides and resources
A comprehensive set of resources for anyone to be able to teach a block on writing discussion texts. Planned for Year 5 but very easily adaptable to Year 4 or Year 6.
Included are:
Full lesson plans for 15/16 lessons, with differentiated activities for children.
IWB slides for every lesson that go step by step through the lesson. (N.B. In the shared writing sessions, the example paragraphs just need playing around with to a new topic. Whilst I could have done these, it is more powerful to do them with the class at the time)
Resource sheets required for lessons.
Word banks for children to use.
A self-assessment/ teacher assessment marking sheet that helps children assess as they write and can then be used for a simple marking sheet to pick out positives and targets for children.
Subtracting 2-digit from 3-digit Numbers Worksheet (with exchange)
A worksheet that provides a variety of questions linked to being able to subtract a 2-digit number from a 3-digit number where some exchanging is required.
Included as part of the worksheet are 8 different questions that provide variation to check understanding through the use of different models, representations and question styles. This includes trying to get pupils to identify links and patterns to support their answers.
There are also 4 challenge questions provided for those that finish to then push their understanding through reasoning and problem solving.
Answers are also included for all questions.
Can easily be used as a worksheet when teaching the objective or used for recap/ revision or even to be sent home as homework.

Sixteen reading comprehension activities linked to the book The Indian in the Cupboard. Each chapter has a separate comprehension activity that includes 20 questions working on different skills as well as also having the answers included separately.
Year 3 Plants - How Water is Transported Lesson
A lesson aimed at the Year 3 Science unit of Plants. This lesson is the third lesson of a sequence, looking at how water is transported through a plant. The lesson presentation includes a recap from a previous lesson (can easily be omitted if you want this lesson as a one off) before then looking at the important parts of a plant in transporting water and how this happens.
This is then followed by an independent activity that requires children to apply what has been discussed by labelling the parts involved and describing the process. This is then followed by a challenge question to provide the chance to reason. An answer sheet and support sheet are also included. This is then followed up with an experiment to end using white carnations and food colouring to show water transportation.
There is also a copy of the recap task included.
Mount Vesuvius Reading Comprehension
A reading comprehension that includes a fact file about Mount Vesuvius and is then followed up with three differentiated worksheets that check their comprehension skills (answers included).
Viking Rune activities
Attached is a page with the Viking Runes for letters and five different activities that children can work through to practise changing writing into runes or vice versa that includes writing messages to one another, writing a Viking attack message and decoding the names of Norse Gods.
Mummification Instructions Writing Unit
A fully planned and resourced writing unit working on creating a set of instructions for mummification.

With drafting and redrafting, as well as then publishing a final piece, there should be enough lessons for between 6 and 8 lessons. The ‘lessons’ as they appear on the PowerPoint may take more than one ‘lesson’ and form sequences of learning. The first step is looking at the features of instructions, including a focus on the knowledge organiser before then identifying these in the model text.
The second sequence then moves on to being able to sequence the steps of mummification when given a set of instructions that can then be improved as part of a challenge. This moves on to then taking a simple set of instructions and improving them, with teacher modelling and guided practice before completing the activity.
This then leads into drafting and redrafting, including teacher modelling and providing feedback based on how pupils write, with the previous activities and word banks still being available to support during the writing process.

A worksheet that provides a variety of questions linked to being able to intepret information presented as pictograms.
Included as part of the worksheet are 4 different questions that provide variation to check understanding through the use of different values for different images and whether pupils are able to intepret these accurately in different questions.
Answers are also included for all questions.
This worksheet can easily be used as a worksheet when teaching the objective or used for recap/ revision or even to be sent home as homework.
Maths Knowledge/ Revision Booklet - Year 6
A booklet full of knowledge organisers or revision sheets for maths that are perfect for use in Year 6 to build quizzes from and support understanding, or even to simply create displays from with key information and vocabulary.
There are ten topics included with a page for each. Each one includes key information, models and key vocabulary.

The Boy at the Back of the Class Reading Comprehension (Chapters 9, 10 and 11)
Three reading comprehension activities linked to chapters 9, 10 and 11 of The Boy at the Back of the Class. Each chapter has a comprehension activity that includes 20 questions that work on different skills as well as also having the answers included separately.

Year 4 Addition and Subtraction Unit (20 lessons)
A fully resourced unit of work for a Year 4 unit on Addition and Subtraction that provides 20 lessons.
Included in the 20 lesson sequence is:
Lesson 1, 2 and 3 - Add and subtract using place value (1s, 10s, 100s and 1000s)
Lesson 4 and 5- Add two 4-digit numbers (no carrying)
Lesson 6 and 7 - Add two 4-digit numbers (1 carry)
Lesson 8, 9 and 10 -Add two 4-digit numbers (multiple carrying)
Lesson 11 and 12 - Subtract using two 4-digit numbers (no exchanging)

Most lessons come in double lessons bar the two triple lessons where there is an introductory lesson followed by a double lesson. Each double lesson includes a double lesson PowerPoint that includes an arithmetic starter for every lesson, key vocabulary, modelling, discussion and practice before moving onto an independent activity and challenge tasks that stretch over the two lessons. Answer sheets are included for all independent activities and challenge tasks.
The single lesson at the start of triple lessons has all the same features but only has a single lesson PowerPoint.
Year 3 Animals including Humans - Bones Lesson
A lesson aimed at the Year 3 Science unit of Animals including Humans. This lesson is the third lesson of a sequence, looking at the human skeleton. The lesson presentation includes a recap task looking at prior learning from a previous lesson (can easily be discarded if you are using this as a stand alone lesson) key vocabulary and discussion around the different bones in the body and the role the skeleton plays. This is then followed up with some true and false questions linked to the information.
This is then followed by an independent activity working on identifying bones in the body, scientific names, the function of the skeleton and some true and false questions. This is then followed by a challenge task to show what else they know about bones. An answer sheet and support sheet are also included, with an answer sheet also included for the recap task.
Alongside this is a second version of the lesson aimed at any groups who may be working at a lower level. The aim of the lesson is the same and there is a presentation, activity with answers and support sheet at a more appropriate level.
History Chronology Skills Activities
Five different activities that work on the ability to use timelines in different ways as well as considering centuries and the years that form each century.
Included is:

An activity that requires events from history to be sorted on to a timeline

Viking Boy Reading Comprehension Pack
Twenty-one reading comprehension activities linked to the book Viking Boy.
Each chapter has a separate comprehension activity that includes 20 questions meaning there are 420 questions linked to the book, working on a range of skills including prediction, summarising, retrieval, vocabulary and inference.
An answer sheet is also included for each chapter.
Non-finite Clause Worksheets
Three differentiated worksheets that focus on non-finite clauses for children in either Year 5 or 6. Activities start with children being able to identify non-finite clauses before moving on to including them and then writing their own sentences that include non-finite clauses.
Examples of Instructions
8 different sets of instructions that are aimed at different ability children, showing different ways in which instructions can be set out for day to day tasks as well as showing how detailed instructions can need to be for a simple task like cleaning your teeth.
Antonyms and Synonyms
Three differentiated resources used with Year 5 children to work on antonyms and synonyms. The first activity requires children to find five antonyms and five synonyms for each word listed. The second activity begins with a similar activity to the first activity, before moving on to a passage where children have to replace the underlined words with synonyms. The third activity starts with an activity where children have to replace the underlined words with synonyms before moving on to a passage where they have to pick out words they can replace with synonyms.
Remembrance Day
A PowerPoint that looks at how Remembrance Day began and why we 'celebrate' it. It also looks at Remembrance Sunday and why we have the poppy as our symbol.
