This lesson can be a one off stand alone lesson or can be used as part of a ‘Fantastic Places’ unit (also available at my shop) It is a really interesting lesson that looks at the unique fascinating lives of one of the isolated tribes in Papua New Guinea. An important lesson as these people may be some of the last who are able to live their lives in this way. The students have really enjoyed this lesson whenever I have taught this lesson.

This is a fun lesson for Drama or English that gets the pupils to think about how to build an original character. It includes a number of activities and some fun drama games to get the students warmed up.

This fascinating lesson introduces students to the Jehovah’s Witness faith. It looks at myths and facts about Jehovah’s Witnesses, teaching the students about their background, history, beliefs, traditions and way of life. The students will take part in a treasure hunt to find the answer to questions, and compare Jehovah’s witnesses to Christianity. A really fun and interesting lesson full of interesting resources. I have also included teachers notes for anyone unfamiliar with this faith.

This assembly explains the back ground to pancake day and looks at why millions of people eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. -It covers the history of Shrove Tuesday -The meaning of lent -The purpose of fasting -How lent is celebrated around the world (in seven different countries) -Some fun facts about pancake day -Why many non-religious people take part in lent -How they can take part in lent (even if they aren’t Christian) It’s a well resourced, presented and explained assembly. They students should not only enjoy it but also reflect on their own lives. This is aimed at KS3/KS4 but could easily work for KS2 or even KS5. You could also use this in tutor time.

This is a really interesting and well resourced lesson that investigates the Sahara desert and the challenges of living life in such a hostile environment, This lesson can be used as a one off (stand alone) or as part of a whole unit (such as my Fantastic Places unit, also available in my shop). This is a fantastic assembly that I used for an interview about refugee week. It has been updated for 2023. It covers the 5 W’s of refugee week, including: -Definitions of refugee, immigrant, asylum seeker -The History of refugees -The reasons why there are so many refugees today -What the future may look like -What we can do to help It also has a fantastic poem that is aimed at making the students think about this as an issue. A well planned, interesting and important assembly.

This can be used as a stand alone lesson about Easter Island or it can be used in the Fantastic places unit of work (also available in my shop). This lesson looks at Easter Island and how the greed and stupidity of it’s people nearly destroyed the island. This is an important story and can teach us lessons about the world we live in today. The students will get a chance to practice their analytical skills and will have a deeper look at the history of Easter Island. The final task gets the students to use empathy to illustrate the key turning points in the islands history. This lesson includes a bell activity, a starter, main activities, plenary and homework. It also features differentiated activities for the less able. A fun and colourful lesson.

This lesson investigates the assassination of JFK and gets the students to examine the evidence to try to answer the title question. This is an interesting and powerful lesson that gets students to challenge the official account and form their own theories as to what really happened in Dallas in 1963. A really good lesson.

This is an outstanding lesson that introduces the students to an alternative religion called Pastafarianism. It looks at how and why the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster was formed, what they believe in and what the reaction to the religion has been. The lesson contains a number of activities including: True or False Quiz, Scavenger Hunt, Short video clip, class discussion and several thinking tasks. An excellent and fun lesson that gets students to think about what religion really is and why they believe.

This lessons looks at the Greater and Lesser Jihad and explores the Muslim attitude to war. The pupils really enjoyed this lesson and felt that they understood this topic much more clearly after this lesson. It helps pupils to understand many of the misconceptions surrounding Jihad, and Islam in general and helps them to understand the positive aspects of Islamic attitdues to violence and war. An interesting and fun lesson that challenges what the pupils may have previously believed. Originally created for KS4 RS, it can easily be adapted for KS3 or KS5.

An interesting lesson that looks at the different causes of war and conflict. This is a useful lesson as it helps students to consider the different causes and assess how justifed most wars really are. It looks at why individuals go to war, and contrasts this as to why countries go to war. It also looks at a recent case study (Syria). It asks the students to think about what war is really like, why does war still exist and what can we do to end war.

This assembly was originally desgined to introduce changes to the school rules, but it can be easily adapted to look at school rules or laws in society. It would also be useful to use as tutor time activity.

This lesson has been observed several times and has always been rated as outstanding. This lesson introduces the concept of population distribution and the factors that influence it. It uses Africa as an example and gets the students to look at the wide variety of climates across Africa and why the population distribution is so uneven. A fascinating lesson that looks at the four main theories of why we use punishment. -Deterrent -Retribution -Protection -Reform It looks at case studies as to how effective the student think these theories are, and it prepares the students for an essay quesion (which can be peer assessed at the end of the lesson) A highly useful introduction to the idea of law and order in society. Originally created for a RS lesson, but can be used forHistory, PSHE or Citizenship. I have also included an interesting article from the Guardian that disusses why prison doesn’t work. It can be used as lesson prep, or as an extension for brighter/older pupils.

Was colonialism good for India? While the question might seem obvious the students will be asked to use their critical thinking skills to investigate sources of information. They will be asked to consider why so many people in India still debate whether colonialism was actually a net positive for Indian development. That is the central question at the heart of this excellent lesson the encourages students to learn the history of India and try to identify the positive and negative contributions Britain made. Well worth a look!

The Holy Trinity can be a difficult concept to understand (especially if you are not a Christian). This lesson introduces the Holy Trinity in a simple and straight forward way. It also links into Christian beliefs and how it helps to explain the nature of God working in the world today. This can be a complex topic, so this allows the pupils to access the information in a relatable way that draw on logical analogies and their own experiences. A useful topic that can be adapted for use at KS2, 3 or 4.

This lesson looks at the population of Africa and asks the question ‘why is the population growing so fast?’ It is a useful lesson for a unit on population or on Africa.
