This lesson is the first of two which look at Christian acts of worship. The lesson focus’ on getting students to think about acts of worship outside of church, specifically art and music. This lesson looks at Lourdes as a site of pilgrimage for Christians. It considers events in the life of Bernadette Soubirous as well as urging students to consider the rituals and spiritual healing that some Christians experience as a consequence of making a pilgrimage to this site. This lesson provides an introduction to the nature and function of Christian prayer. It has four tasks including analysis of different types of prayer and an exam style question linked to the new GCSE syllabus. A homework task related to adoration and thank giving is also included. Objectives are differentiated and there is an extension task for more able students.
