How democratic was the UK/Britain in the 1800s? Two hour long lessons!

(0)
In this lesson students begin to explore people's rights, these two lessons were designed to support a new topic on campaigning for rights. In the first lesson students are encouraged to explore the nature of democracy in Britain during the 1800s. In the second lesson students look at who could and couldn't vote using a series of characters. A video clip about human rights through time is embedded. The first lesson will require the red SHP textbook "Re-discovering Britain 1500-1750" page 86 for the main task. Otherwise all required sheets are attached. Comments are appreciated.

Christmas Through Time Activity Booklet: Bumper Pack.

It’s always nice to give your students something Christmassy to work towards as it gets closer. I’ve updated this resource due to it’s popularity. This 10 page booklet can be printed in colour or black and white. Students can work through the different activities suggested in one go or once a week. I’ve used these resources with different ages but it would work best for lower secondary or primary school. The resources tell the Christmas story, look into traditions today and explore how Christmas was celebrated in the Tudor and Medieval period. The additional Powerpoint may also be used for other activities. Comments are appreciated. Images acquired through a search engine filtered to labelled for reuse.

Bolsheviks in Power Tarsia Revision

This Tarsia puzzle covers the theme of the Bolsheviks in power from 1917-24. Great for 9-1 GCSE revision or quick A-level recaps. It can be used for intervention sessions and revision. The puzzle was designed to support the Russia and the Soviet Union, 1917-1941 unit. A Tarsia puzzle requires students to match up sides of triangles to form a hexagonal shape. They are brilliant for revision and get students to think hard. I use these at the starts of ends of lessons and they can take 10-20 minutes depending on your class’s confidence in the material. All materials are provided here including student instructions, student puzzle pieces and teacher answers. All images have been acquired through a search engine filtered to labelled for re-use. Enjoy!

Medicine Through Time - How use is this source type questions - Q3 of Edexcel 2013

(1)
My students get really worried when looking at "how useful is this source" type questions of the Edexcel medicine paper. This is currently Q3 of the 2013 onwards paper. This lesson seeks to build up their understanding of how to explain a source's usefulness. This lesson contains two example questions, some sentence starters to develop structure and most of a model answer. Students can then be set an example for homework. This lesson could be supported by pages 30-31 of the new edition of the Edexcel endorsed textbook (2013 edition). Comments are appreciated :-)

In this lesson students take on the viewpoint of the famous Tudor and Stuart historian: David Starkey. Students use their own knowledge and a provided card sort to challenge Starkey's view. This lesson was designed for KS3 but I have used variants of it for GCSE and even A-level. I absolutely love this lesson and so do the students. I always try to sell the idea that we are going to post our responses to Starkey in attempt to get a reply. All images acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for re-use".
