A KS2 power-point of 19 slides which can be used as one lesson or extended over a longer period. Included are examples of 2 short horror stories (not too scary!) for pupils to use in the lesson to analyse against a Horror story features checklist. There are key questions to promote discussion and paired work. Also included is a simple planning and drafting grid. Pupils can use the grids to give paired feedback to improve their work prior to writing the final story. The lesson culminates in a spooky story reading presentation.

This example demonstrates features of a diary and acts as a recount of the event including personal feelings and points of view. There are seven items of equipment to label on the space shuttle and rocket worksheets and eight parts to label on the spacesuit. The vocabulary list is included on each worksheet for pupil use and there is a small photograph of a real shuttle and rocket for pupils to make a comparison between a photo and a simplified diagram. This is a useful activity to assess pupil knowledge of key vocabulary at the end of a mini topic on Space, journeys, famous explorers, or Planets.

Pupils cut out the images and descriptions and sequence the story onto a storyboard template. There are three templates attached which support differentiation and reading levels. HA template is numbered only and pupils order the story into the numbered boxes. MA is differentiated using key words from the main text in the numbered boxes. LA order the story into the numbered boxes with the support of key sentences which they can match to the main text.

Useful for paired and individual use on laptops as a story writing stimulus. I printed the slides and made a class book which my Y5 children loved reading in their ‘quiet time’.

KS2 powerpoint lesson on the artist and architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Series of 24 slides telling the story of his life and works. The slides are interactive and promote discussion within pairs and small groups. Pupils will learn the features of art nouveau/deco architecture and furniture design, identification of geometric shapes in designs, and use of images to create their own geometric pattern/design. Pupils will use the Mackintosh rose as a stimulus to create their own floral design and identify the features of Mackintosh’s watercolours through comparison of his most famous works. There is a link to a Youtube clip explaining how to paint with watercolours and the final activity is a research task to find out the auction price of some of Mackintosh’s works. Can be used as a whole lesson or series of lessons which lead into practical cross curricular activities.

KS2 Years 4,5,6 - A series of 5 consecutive power-point lessons about the amazing country Australia (56 slides). Lesson 1 introduces the topic with visual clues using pupil’s own experiences as a starting point. The pupils are encouraged to use a Project Book to record their journey through each lesson. Lesson 2 focuses on the Australian territories, climate, landscape and capital and Lesson 3 uses seasonal rainfall and temperature data to enable pupils to compare, differentiate and analyse weather and climate between Australia and Britain. Pupils are set a challenge to apply their knowledge to advise a traveller with specific needs where to go for a holiday. Lesson 4 focuses on Australain people and Aboriginal culture including ‘Dreamtime’, Art and Music. There are links to Youtube clips to enable you to develop the learning into creative lessons. Lesson 5 looks at things to do in Australia, including wildlife and sports. Each lesson offers clear steps for pupils to work in partners, small groups and individually. Each slide can be printed separately to enable pupils to have access to information tables and data. Differentiation is possible through limiting or increasing the data tables and amount of information for different ability groups. The Project book used throughout the topic will provide an assessment opportunity for cross curricular recording as well as Geographical understanding and data handling.
