I love resources that ensure all pupils are able to access & feel confident within lessons. It makes me sad when a pupil feels stressed because they don't get it. I love hearing a pupil say "I am on it miss". All resources for main part of lessons are differentiated to 3 if not 4 levels of progress. Starters are mixed ability so that I can get pupils to feel confident in areas they struggle on. Any queries please email me; shacostello@gmail.com

Calculate missing angles - KS3/ GCSE

(14)
Learners are given the opportunity to calculate missing angles on a straight line, around a point and in a triangle. Once they have achieved each there is a problem involving algebra to challenge their knowledge and understanding. My year 8s loved this.

Calculate missing angles in a triangle - KS3/GCSE

(7)
Get learners in pairs or groups to discuss how we calculate a missing angle in a triangle. Then ask learners how we would use or knowledge to solve the problems involving algebra. When learners say form an equation remind them how to solve using the balance method. For this particular task we completed them on posters for a display to show the challenges we had worked on.

Christmas Quiz (Chrismaths Quiz :))

(1)
Attached is a basic PPT for a lower ability class in KS3. It goes through number facts and a movie at the end of each round. Pupils are placed into groups - no more than 4 per group as people start to disengage, you can give each pupil a job to ensure all are working. All should have working out paper. This is a great way to encourage group mathematical discussion and pupils working together. 4 rounds - 5 questions each and the best team with the most points at the end wins a maths piece of equipment. Q4 is the same on all rounds as it was something my class found difficult, some serious misconceptions around adding unlike terms in maths.

GCSE 9 - 1 New specification; Mind the gap quiz (wk 3) - non calculator for foundation!

(2)
GCSE 9 - 1 New specification; Mind the gap quiz (non calculator) for foundation! Mind the gap resource - based on the new 9 - 1 GCSE. Based on EDEXCEL style paper questions, I have produced a mini whiteboard quiz/paper quiz as a starter for lessons to get pupils earning those easy marks throughout the paper. A focus on 1 - 2 mark questions that our pupils are making errors on. Each quiz has a questions slide and then the answers are provided also. I tend to get pupils to mark their questions at the end of each slide to ensure they can see they are making progress. I often use at the start of a revision session or during drop down days to get pupils engaged by having a competition board and the winner is the pupil who scores the most points - earning themselves a prize. I find that pupils need repetition - perfect practice, makes perfect. So I have produced 5 mind the gaps, same skills addressed in each one with different figures. This builds confidence with my pupils as they can see the progress they have made from the start of the week to the end of the week. Based around paper 1; foundation skills - non calculator. Mapping Diagrams RAG Task

Pupils choose which colour they feel confident attempting. If they are really confident they should choose green, the secure option, if they are struggling they should choose the red or amber option (foundation – basic assessment of skill, amber is a little bit harder). Pupils show the questions, working out and answers that they have attempted in their class book. Pupils self assess or peer assess at the end of each activity to show themselves how much progress they have made. Answers provided. Terms of use; Please use only by the customer paying for the resource. Printing tip; Print - fit to page or fill entire page so they only print on A4. I have also included a second copy with a label of printing because my lovely reviewer gave me a valuable tip about cost of ink so I have changed the background to white to make it cheaper.
