Empire lesson. Good for an introduction into Indian Empire.

An easy to follow lesson on Titanic. Students review pieces of evidence and categorise and organise this these into a diamond 9 (or score each piece of evidence) to determine who they think was to blame for the Titanic disaster. They follow this up with a report writing activity to explain their theory and also to offer suggestions on how future disasters might be avoided. Literacy support and differentiated materials/ resources are included. As always there are clear instructions and high quality differentiated resources. This lesson looks at a range of key events that impacted the population growth in Britain, 1750-1900. Students discuss key factors, select and priorities evidence before completing a teaching poster for 3 factors or events that affected population growth during the Industrial Revolution. All resources provided and modelled in the presentation. As always there are clear instructions and differentiated activities

Students begin by creating a fact file about the event (directed and differentiated). They then look at several reasons why Japan might have attacked Pearl Harbour. They need to sort these reasons into categories or factors that motivated the attack. They eventually decide which factor was key and link this to the best supporting evidence before writing up their findings in a telegram. Literacy support and differentiated resources included as well as clear step by step instruction.

A lesson on the growth of highway robbery, poaching and smuggling and then the eventual decline of these crimes. Students work through a range of activities such as card sorts, prioritising information before they complete a matrix exercise and respond to a 12 mark exam question using the lesson’s knowledge and skills to explain how crimes increased and subsequently decreased in the period 1700-1900. A key term grid with all the key vocabulary for the period 1700-1900 is included.

This lesson examines the role that children played in the factories during the industrial revolution. Through analysing a video clip and a range of sources students develop knowledge of the different roles played by children and the conditions that faced. Once the class have collected data they use this to produce an article about conditions in the factories and what steps could be take to improve these conditions. A step by step guide and differentiated resources are included.

Students learn about four key Catholic plots that eventually led to the execution of Mary, Queen of Scots in 1587. The students begin with a code cracking activity. The data collection task requires the students to research the key plots and attribute scores for various categories linked to each in order to complete a card trading activity to determine which plot was most dangerous. This is followed up by various decision-making activities that aim to develop exam skills. Clear step by step instructions included.

A lesson which looks at Africa in the 18th century. The students are asked to consider their view on Africa in 1700 by creating an instagram update, before analysing, categorising and annotating sources. They use the data to write a report using GCSE skills and finish the lesson by challenging their earlier opinion.

A concise 6 page A4 revision and teaching guide for the first unit of the Edexcel 9-1 Weimar and Nazi Germany specification (The Weimar Republic 1918-29). This comes with key vocabulary, an overview of the period, exam info on each sub topic, quick fire revision tasks, such as multiple choice questions, a student assessment grid and exam question examples and advice/ tips and skills. The is also a quick fire test, which can be used as a starter or a plenary or simply included in the booklet. This is perfect to give to each student either before or after the unit. This lesson focuses on the US government’s policy towards the Plains Indians in the period 1830-51 and how/ why it changed during this period. Students analyse four key events/ policy changes through decision-making and discussion based tasks. Using their knowledge on each policy they complete a radar graph activity which leads into follow-up tasks such as a quick fire quiz and an annotated time line. These activities set the students up for an examination (narrative style) question. These are structure strips, tips and a mark scheme included. The PowerPoint includes a step by step guide with a examples and a range of differentiated and extension tasks. This lesson will ideally be taught across two one hour lessons. Time travel Britain! Students learn about Christmas during two different eras; the medieval period and Christmas during the rule of Oliver Cromwell. These two booklets include a range of activities (that need minimal teacher intervention) such as a time travel activity, source analysis, writing up a report about Christmas in the period of study (a differentiated version included with sentence stems and a version without literacy support is included), a stamp making activity, a word search and a quick recap at the end where students change their time travels views based on what they now know. Each book will take the students a 60 minute lesson to work through (so enough material for two lessons here). Enjoy a stress free end of term lesson :-)

Easy to follow lesson which examines the penal and police reforms led by Robert Peel. Students create a fact file, analyse the reasons for penal reforms, assess the success of the peelers based on a card sort and ranking activity (differentiated) with various extension tasks to challenge the more able and an exam style question.

This Tarsia puzzle covers the theme of crime and punishment through time, c1000 – present. The Tarsia puzzle requires students to match up sides of triangles to form a hexagonal shape (as shown on the presentation). These are really useful for revision purposes. The activity takes around 15 minutes and can be used as a starter or a plenary. This resource includes all necessary materials. Instructions included on the PowerPoint.

This lesson looks at the significance of the Reichstag fire and if the possibility of a Nazi conspiracy could have taken place. Students work through activities, such as sequencing and categorising the events before and after the fire, analysing evidence cards and working through sources to draw their own conclusions before making a judgement.
