At the present time I am Head of Science at an independent Prep School. Teaching KS3 Science so the majority of resources are KS3. I teach several year groups in mixed ability sets so most of my resource included differentiated resources to enable all students to engage whatever their ability level. In previous job taught AQA Triple Science so a selection of resources for teaching these concepts also can be found here.

I used this ppt for the first lesson with my Yr 7 to get them thinking about rules in the lab. I printed off the second slide and laminated it and gave it to pairs of students with a whiteboard pen and asked them to circle any dangerous situations - we then used what they came up with to draw up our own class list of safety rules

This was used as an introductory lesson on a cross curricular day linking science to the holocaust. Links recent uses of DNA fingerprinting to help to reunite families torn apart by the holocaust and also to attempt to identify holocaust-era forensic remains. I finished the lesson with the DNA fingerprinting mysteries - see seperate resource and then a second lesson doing a practical where the students extracted their own DNA from cheek cells

I used this with both Yr 7 and Yr 6 in the week before their end of year exams. In end of unit tests lots of pupils were missing marks as they were not giving enough detail to gain full marks - I used this ppt and attached questions to try and rectify this and to calm their exam nerves!

This is a group of resources that contains all you need to run a World Science Day/Week in your school. Every year I put on a week devoted to Science at my Prep School. I have competitions for each Year group (Yr 1 - 8) as well as Science Assembly where I do demos etc. These are my resources from last year when I choose the theme of Marine Conservation Zones (MCZs) to get children involved in the consultation process and get their families to vote. I also ran a teacher competition this year - to learn the whole Periodic Table of Elements!

I have competitions for each Year group (Yr 1 - 8) as well as Science Assembly where I do demos etc. For Yr 3/4 Competition I laminated the animal fact cards and hid them around the school so they had to search to find them. For the Seniors (Yr 5 - 8) I hid the fact cards (that I found on TES - thanks!) around the school for them to find.

KS3 Energy/Fuels/Photosynthesis Revision

Useful for end of KS3 exams - I print out the student version of the ppt with four slides per page - they then fill in the gaps as we go through ppt in class. They then can stick two sheets back to back on a piece of card and cut them out to make 4 double sided revision cards. My students love this way of revising.

Conduction - Remote/Home Learning Lesson

This is a lesson I put together for my students to learn about Conduction remotely. I have recorded myself talking through the powerpoint I would usually use for this lesson in school. The video is broken into chunks so that they can complete various activities as we go through the lesson - including a simple practical they can carry out at home. Worksheet that goes along with this lesson included. Instructions shared with the students were: Watch Conduction Video 1 & 2 Carry out experiment explained in video - write down your results down on a scrap of paper as you will need them later Watch Conduction Video 3 Complete relevant sections on the Conduction worksheet - write as detailed answers as you can for each question Watch Conduction Video 4 Complete the rest of worksheet - write as detailed answers as you can for each question Obviously this was recorded with my own students in mind so there are references in video to meeting on Google Meet for support. So you will need to ignore these references. This was my first attempt at doing a videoed lesson so a little rough round the edges (much improved Convection lesson available) but still should save you a lot of time! My students really enjoyed this lesson and said that it almost felt like a ‘normal’ lesson at school! Hope you find it useful and that it saves you time at this stressful time! I am doing a whole unit on heat transfer at the moment so keep checking back for further lessons if you enjoy this format.
