‘Clip and Flip’ cards for 11 Māori colours. A fun, hands-on activity for reinforcing the knowledge and recall of the names of colours. Instructions: Look at the colour splodge on the front of the card. Read the words on the right. Decide which one of the Māori words is the correct one for that colour and place a clothes peg on that word. Flip the card over to see if you are correct. Take the peg off and try again with another card. Note: The cards do not come with the answer on the back so you will need to place a mark on the reverse side of the card. Just use something like a sticker or make a mark with a coloured pencil. Do this before you laminate the cards. Game 1 – Dotty Dice: A game for 2 players. Take alternate turns. You need one dotty dice and you each need counters (a different colour to your partner). Roll the dice. A fun, effective art activity for your students when celebrating Anzac Day. A fabulous resource to have in New Zealand classrooms when studying Māori Myths and Legends. Great for a follow-up activity after reading the story, or to have as an early-finisher task. 12 word searches. Eleven of the word searches have a Māori themed border or panel that can be coloured after finding all of the words. One word search has a flame/fire themed border (How Maui Found the Secret of Fire). These word searches are designed to go with the fabulous stories written by Peter Gossage. These books are commonly found in NZ schools and are also easily available for purchase in book stores. If you are not sure what these books look like, I suggest you do a quick image search on the internet (I'm not able to include an image here due to copyright restrictions). These activity sheets focus on reading and matching sight words that are written in different fonts.
