A simple task (at first) to consider whether or not one of Medieval Wales' most celebrated Prince deserved to be given the title "Great". The powerpoint is self-explanatory and leads to a literacy (Writing Accurately) task, which covers some strands of the LNF (see the writing accurately pyramid at the end of the ppt). A simple comprehension resource looking at the causes of the Wars of Independence from the death of Alexander III to the Battle of Dunbar. Pupils to elicit information and consider the most important parts of the narrative, and create a 12 scene cartoon strip.

A two/three lesson resource looking at they battles of the Civil War. Pupils create a living graph (from the perspective of a Royalist or Parliamentarian) to map out the course of the war from their point of view (using the key found on the battle map). Card sorting activity to help them categorise the factors that made the Royalists weaker and the Parliamentarians stronger as the war progressed. An extended writing (PEEL) activity at the end to allow pupils to show their knowledge and understanding of the key question. Enjoy!
