Use the PowerPoint to learn about Samuel Pepys and why he is significant today. Then children will complete their factfile, this has been differentiated.

The PowerPoint will be looked at first where children will discuss what bread they have tasted, where they buy their bread and how it is has changed over time. Bread will be tasted and children will fill in their sheet with a rating. Then they will design a new type of bread that could be sold in Pudding Lane Bakery and consider the different skills they will complete, such as sieving, mixing and kneading. Once made they will taste and evaluate their bread using the worksheet.

Read and identify the different features found in a non-chronological report. Use different colours to complete the table.

Match the sentences to the correct pictures. Cut them out neatly and stick them in your book.

Recognise and use the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction and use this to check calculations and solve missing number problems. Three different challenges based on child’s ability. Investigation included to further challenge children’s conceptual understanding.

Children should also be able to state how a number is made up. For example, they can express 42 as 4 tens and 2 ones or as 42 ones.

Three differentiated challenges

Edit in each child’s name, print and then fold. Child can then decorate their name card and place this on their desk. This is great to use at the start of the year when learning children’s names.

Children can walk around and find out what they have in common with their class mates.
