UKS2 Skellig English, reading, guided reading unit of work

A unit of work on the book ‘Skellig’ by David Almond. Reading-focus lesson plans, as well as lessons which include a focus on art, poetry writing, diary writing and information text writing. I have attached resources and the plan includes some photos from my classroom displays and work completed. There are also links made to a beautiful picture book called ‘FaRther’, which linked nicely to our WW2 theme at the time. Pictures of Skellig front cover and other Skellig related images all from Google.

GPS SPaG Truth or Dare? game

(0)
A game to help children practice and apply their grammar, punctuation & spelling skills. in the style of ‘truth or dare?’ the children either pick a ‘truth’ card (cards with a GPS term written on each one and the children have to explain what they mean and give in an example sentence) or a ‘dare’ card. The children love playing this game in class and at our Y6 GPS booster club. I have designed these to be used at my school where we say our ‘Values verse’ during assembly each day, so please adapt those cards to suit yours and things relevant to your class/school which will engage the children (maybe a favourite song of the class?).

LKS2 Super Cones problem solving lesson resources

Resources I have made to be used alongside the NNS ‘Super Cones’ Y3/4 problem-solving maths task. All classes I have used this with have loved getting into the problem, and I have found it to be a good start of the year problem, to set problem-solving expectations/guidelines for too.

Rubbish bin game - place value activity

Saw this game being played on a video on an American website and made my own boards for it! 3x differentiated boards; chn roll the dice as many times as top of page says. Chn fill in the gaps with the digits rolled, aim is to make the lowest or greatest value (each box says which should be made). Chn can then write out equality sentences below each box using the < > = signs.

KS2 revision - Maths meetings

(1)
‘Maths meetings’ provide children with the opportunity to revise a variety of maths skills and knowledge. I introduced maths meetings earlier on in the year, and now we are close to SATs, I put a time limit on these, as well as differentiating for the different groups within my maths class.

IPC - Temples, Tombs & Treasures homework task

Homework task I have created for our Y3/4 classes doing the IPC theme on Ancient Egypt. You print out the colour picture (we found this to be clearer when printed, when compared with the B&W image of Howard Carter) and cut up into jigsaw/puzzle pieces. We then put the pieces into an envelope (1 complete set of pieces per child) and sent these home, with the Word doc prompt I have attached, in their homework journals.
