An assembly for the start of year about bhow to make good progress at school.
It opens looking at potential and what it means
It then moves onto confidence, perseverance and challenge
Each section is supported by inspirational quotes from famous men and women
It then looks at four specific examples of people who have over come challenges (Bethany Hamilton, Van Gogh, Helen Keller and Emily Blunt)
The assembly closes by addressing a common student complaint- I don’t need xxxxxx so why do I need to study it. It looks at a series of careers that have been ‘invented’ since I left school in 1998
A complete lesson covering section 5.1.1 b and c of the OCR Biology specification- how gene linkage and epistasis can affect the phenotypic ratios and how this can be investigated using Chi square.
The lesson starts by introducing sex linkage and then includes some examples of genetic crosses involving colour blindness. It then looks at autosomal linkage again using example crosses to support. The lesson the goes on to look at both recessive and dominant epistasis again using lots of examples to support understanding.
The lesson closes by introducing the Chi square test
As well as the examples the lesson includes lots of exam questions to show how the skills could be assessed
I aim to reduce photocopying so all resources are in the PPT (62 slides in total)
A bundle of lessons covering sections 6.3.1, 6.3.2 and 6.3.3 of the OCR Physics specification- magnetisms and electromagnetism.
The lessons cover:
Magnetic fields
Flemings left and right hand rules
The motion charged particles
Magnetic flux
Magnetic flux linkage
e.m.f
Faraday’s law and Lenz’s law
The uses of electromagnetic induction
The lessons include a starter, full notes, various student led activities and a differentiated summary at the end.
All answers are included.
I actively try to reduce photocopying, so all of the lesson resources are within the PowerPoint rather than as extra sheets.
A full revision lesson based around the OCR A level physics course module 4- electricity. It includes a number of exam questions, a variety of short answer questions to check the recall of equations and other key facts, and a section covering circuit symbols.
The exam questions build on each other allowing students to practice key skills adding a layer of difficulty each time.
All answers included.
A full lesson covering section 5.1.1.g and h of the OCR Chemistry specification as well as PAG 10.1- the use of rate and concentration graphs especially in clock reactions. It covers what a rate coneration graph is and how they can be used to work out both the order of reactant and the value of k for reactions. It introduces clock reactions and the method and analysis for PAG 10.1
The lesson includes a starter, full notes, student activities and a differentiated summary at the end.
All answers included
A PowerPoint for an assembly on study skills. Aimed principally at KS4 and year 9 but could also be helpful with KS3
It is 18 slides long with presenter notes on the majority of slides
It starts by discussing why studying is so important before moving onto a series of tips around good study habits (set goals, plan time, location).
It then looks at 6 different evidence led strategies including flash cards, interleaving and dual coding
The assembly closes by considering the importance of practice but also looking at mental and physical health
