Lesson plan and activities for year 7 on pregnanacy. Lesson covers stages of development in the foetus as well as new key words and diagrams. Includes an AfL plenary task.
A table for year 7 pupils to fill out on the properties of solids, liquids and gases. Under the title of the state of matter, the box is there for pupils to draw a particle diagram of the solids, liquid or gas.
The worksheet is designed to be filled out and discussed as a whole class activity, and then pupils use this to classify substances which are typically difficult to classify. E.g custard, jelly, sand etc.
A simple method for pupils to follow - designed for high ability year 8 group, but the images would allow for differentiation for lower ability groups.
I have designed the worksheet just to give the simple method which will be used by pupils to determine which pen was used to write a 'mystery note'.

The heart & circulatory system - Based on the AQA Specification - this lesson covers:
- the functions of the major parts of the heart.
- dissection of a heart and identify these major parts.
- linking the structure and functions of the heart and circulatory systems.

Designed for SEN year 9 class, but could be used for year 7 and 8 classes, also.
Pupils match up the correct definition with the key word. Could be done as a cut and stick, or drawing a line.
Year 8 revision lesson on heating and cooling. Activities include splat, mini-whiteboards (keywords and definitions), bingo and a multiple choice quiz.
Students start by matching famous parents with famous children (most do get correct answers!). Then a discussion on how they did this an dhow characteristics are inherited. It touches on sexual and asexual reproduction through discussion on how different organisms reproduce. Good introduction to a topic.

With the animated ppt slides, I ask students to use mini-whiteboards to fill in names of carbon stores and processes as we go along.

A set of lungs will have to be requested before the lesson if you wish to carry out the demo (although it is not necessary to the lesson). I also use a cauliflower and cut it up as a model for the alveoli. Students could also critique this model to develop their HSW skills.
