A resource adapted from the L’Auberge Espagnole study pack on RoutesIntoLanguages, made for AS and A level students studying the film as part of their course. This was used specifically for those doing the AQA exam board, however it can be used for any. Includes extensive analysis and information on the film, as well as many different vocabulary and grammar tasks. All tasks have been created differently - some include essay writing, whereas others include matching photos to names and nationalities so can be used for any ability. It’s a good idea to work through this booklet as you introduce the film to the students as the booklet itself does go from ‘avant d’avoir vu le film’ up to when students are revising and preparing for the exams.

A complete PPT lesson la laïcité et Noël en France - secularity and Christmas in France. Aimed at A level students as it encourages debates/use of spoken French for a large part in the classroom. Includes grammar points and vocab points created as feedback from a previous essay homework set to students. These are, of course, transferable as they include common mistakes made by students when writing in French. Encourages students to challenge how democracy and secularity works - the French state is supposed to be separate from the Church however all Bank Holidays are Catholic festivals. Incorporates group work too.

An exam paper created to challenge/assess A/AS level Spanish students. The exam is not made for any particular exam board and can be used to practice/test skills required for all exam boards, including: Comprehension: reading the extract and answering questions relating to it (multiple choice). Explaining the meaning of certain words based on context/finding synonyms. Gap fill. Correcting grammatically incorrect sentences. Summary writing. Extended writing task (blog). Answers are included for every section EXCEPT Section B - the writing task. This is for the teacher to mark based on the quality of the student’s writing, but it could also be an opportunity for the students to peer assess.

A full lesson (PPT) aimed at any level of GCSE Spanish (can be adapted). Includes a quiz which is the main point of the lesson - students must come up with their team name in Spanish relating to Halloween in some way. They write their answers down, then we go through them in class and cover any vocab the students are unsure of. Then, the rest of the lesson is spent on cultural aspects of Halloween in Southern America. There is a reading comprehension task (true or false) that comes with answers.

Two grammar activities aimed at Year 11/A level Spanish students to practice, consolidate or assess knowledge of grammar. A full lesson aimed at A/AS level students studying French. This falls under the ‘le patrimoine’ topic of the AQA spec. The lesson focuses on le patrimoine culturel immatériel, specifically the practice of ‘la Corrida’ which has huge controversy surrounding its practice in the south of France. It comes with a vocabulary section, gives information on the practice in France and the main activity is a writing task. The lesson also comes with homework to complete for the next lesson. Note: the learning objectives have been kept blank.
