Two differentiated Venn Diagrams for use with KS1 children or less able KS2 children. The first sheet sorts on a single criteria (whether the animal is nocturnal or not) and the second sheet sorts on two criteria, with overlap (animals that live on land/water). Also don't miss the opportunity for discussion around animals that go outside the circles on the second Venn Diagram!
A game to help pupils practice their high frequency keyword spellings.
The first page - the game board - should be blown up to A3 size and I’ve laminated my copy. The keyword pages should be copied onto card and cut up. You will need a dice and a counter for each child playing (my class have used their mini robots that they created as part of our topic work).
Children write the Easter story in their own keepsake booklet. There are 10 pages for writing on in total, including a reflection page at the end. Each page has simple illustrations for the children to colour and space to write about the Easter story. The booklet matches up with the images used in my Easter Story powerpoint: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/the-easter-story-powerpoint-11552562
Print the pdf as is, double-sided, and make sure you tick the ‘flip on the short edge’ option. The booklet will print out in the correct order and you simply need to fold the pages in half.
Enjoy!

Primary school SMSC assembly plan and presentation based on the word ‘Social’ and informed by the government’s advice document on promoting fundamental British values as part of SMSC in schools.
The assembly helps children to understand the meaning of the word ‘social’, apply it to themselves and their own lives and then extend it to the wider world. There is a reflection at the end for children to celebrate how lucky they are to lead social lives and consider how they can make a difference to someone in their social groups.
Files included:

This Year 1 unit of maths work is for early on in Year 1. The learning journey focuses on learning to read and write the numbers 1 - 10 in numerals and words as well as counting to 30 forwards and backwards. These numbers are lower than the end of year (EOY) expectations for Year 1 but activities can easily be extended for more able pupils or if you are teaching this unit later in the year.
NC objectives covered:
• Count to and across 30 (EOY = 100), forward s and backwards, beginning with 0 or 1 or from any given number.
• Count, read and write numbers to 50 in numerals.
• Read and write numbers from 1-10 (EOY = 1-20)
This unit includes:
- a unit of work overview
- an entry/exit pass for AfL
- number frames and number cards (pupils pick a card and dot in the number frames)
- editable pom-pom serving game (group game: pupils pick a card, 'waiter' has to serve the correct number and colour of pom-poms - use tweezers for fine motor skill practise!)
- roll and write recording frame
- shape investigation - shapes and instructions
- rainbow spelling sheet
- 1 - 10 in words bookmarks
Have a bit of fun and keep the children busy with these classic logic puzzles. Children can practise their reading and reasoning in an engaging and different way!
Read the clues and eliminate possibilities to crack the puzzle. Children can draw pictures or use the grids provided to logically reason which pirate captains each ship.
There are 3 differentiated puzzles and answers are provided with this resource.
If you’ve enjoyed the pirates puzzle, why not try another logic puzzle:

Reading comprehensions on the UK government, general election and democracy. There are three differentiated versions that could be used for Year 2 and upwards. My more able Year 1s had a go at the comprehension sheet in the middle of the file and did pretty well, it was a good challenge for them - I'm amused that they would build more chocolate factories if they ran the government!
Questions include multiple choice, short written and longer written answers. The highest level also contains a true/false table with statements to be ticked as appropriate.
Over 100 pages of activities for teaching and mastering 3 of the Year 1 place value objectives!
This bundle contains mastery materials for:
- counting to and across 100, forwards and backwards, beginning from 0 or 1, or from any given number
- counting in multiples of 2, 5 and 10
- identifying one more or one less than a given number
I’m working on the other objectives and will add them to this bundle as they become available. Check back because I think once you’ve bought this bundle you’re able to download any additional resources added to it - bargain! If you have any trouble doing so, just message me privately via the TES website and I’ll send you any additional files that you are entitled to.
Enjoy!
Perfect for practising segmenting for spelling using a tablet or PC with early writers! No printing is required - all you’ll need is a device that has PowerPoint, or access to Google Slides via the internet, a piece of paper and a pencil or pen.
The digital worksheets begin with simple CVC (consonant sound, vowel sound, consonant sound) words such as pig, hat, etc. with the middle sound provided. Children sound out (segment) the word, using the image and given letter for support and then write the word on their piece of paper. Answers are provided on the penultimate slide so they can even mark their own work.
Once they have mastered level 1, they can “unlock” the next level and so on, building up their segmenting for spelling skills progressively and systematically.
I’ve used these digital worksheets with children 4 years old and upwards. Most children are able to use them independently once they’ve been shown what to do and the slide show is presented. They occasionally come out of the slide show by accident but show children how to press the slide show/present button and they can often handle that by themselves too - great for their computing skills!
What’s included?
A zipped file which contains all of the PowerPoints as follows:
CVC single grapheme words (scaffolded)
CVC single grapheme words
CVC digraph words
CCVC single grapheme words
CVCC single grapheme words
CCVC words with digraphs
CVCC words with digraphs
Track errors, diagnose areas of development and organise groups and interventions to prepare your class for the Year 1 phonics screening check.
This document contains a set of instructions, the diagnostic tool, a worked example for an individual pupil and whole class with a follow-up breakdown. This should help you complete the diagnostic tool and see how you can use the information it provides to plan your priorities for teaching whole class, small groups and/or 1:1 interventions.
This really worked for me last year, I used it within my own class where I achieved a 90% pass rate for the screening check, and as year leader across Year 1 to inform the teachers of phonics sets, where we achieved an 84% pass rate collectively.
Use these Christmas calculations to challenge your pupils’ understanding, ability to reason mathematically and algebraic thinking in a fun and engaging way!
Using images to represent numbers, children use what they know to discover the value of the images. They need to understand the meaning of =, x and ÷ signs and the relationship between multiplication and division. The calculations include 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables.
There are 4 sets of progressively more difficult calculations, as well as 4 sets with the numbers given in an answer key for children requiring more support. As an extension, children could write their own challenges or describe how they know their answer is correct.
There is also an addition and subtraction version of this resource here.

Consonant clusters are a stumbling block for many children in the phonics screening check. Use these cards and games to support the children in recognising consonant blends and then blending them in words.
You may also have identified in practise that children sometimes reverse letters to create digraphs, e.g. mistakenly reading thrand as tharnd or strok as stork. This resource also practises this scenario through the word builder cards.
I hope they help!
