I used this ppt for the first lesson with my Yr 7 to get them thinking about rules in the lab. I printed off the second slide and laminated it and gave it to pairs of students with a whiteboard pen and asked them to circle any dangerous situations - we then used what they came up with to draw up our own class list of safety rules

This is a task I give students at the end of the separating mixtures unit - the students are grouped into ability groups (Squid = HIgh, Crab = Mid, Starfish = Low) I show them a sample of dirty Rock salt - their task is to plan how to separate a sample of pure salt from the rock salt using these planning sheets - I blow them up to A3 to give them plenty of room to write on as a group

Contains a ppt which takes you through an investigation into which indigestion tablets are best at neutralising acids. First lesson spent carrying out practical and second lesson writing this up using the attached worksheets. Three worksheets used for inclusion of wide variety of students within the class

I run this challenge after teaching a unit on renewable and non renewable energy sources. The activity is taken from Practical Action's website. I've done this with two mixed ability classes and it works really well - everyone very involved and some great critical thinking going on while discussing designs etc.

All the resources etc you need to run a G&T CSI Day - I've taken out the photos of staff that I used as suspects so you&'ll need to add your own. Re Evidence - i dipped a shoe into hot chocolate (!) and then pushed it down onto sticky backed plastic to make a shoe print that was &';obtained' from the crime scene, fibres were pulled from several scarfs and stuck onto microscope slides

This lesson is taught in a series of lessons on different chemical reactions, following on from a lesson that went through why some metals corrode, what is needed for corrosion/rusting to occur and how to prevent corrosion. This was taught to a top set Yr 8 set who are set into two animal groups (squid = top, crab = bottom). Lesson is differentiated for the two groups to allow individual work for the top group and paired work for the bottom half - worksheet attached to enable bottom group to achieve LO. We spend one lesson planning this and then set up the expt during next lesson and leave it to run over half term to maximize time for rusting. In my school I use this lesson to assess one strand of scientific investigative skills that count towards our School's Baccalaureate.

Useful for end of KS3 exams - I print out the student version of the ppt with four slides per page - they then fill in the gaps as we go through ppt in class. They then can stick two sheets back to back on a piece of card and cut them out to make 4 double sided revision cards. My students love this way of revising.

A ppt that introduces the concept of the periodic table and talks through some of the patterns shown by the elements. Activities included - some taken from other contributors - thank you! Blank periodic table included which I got students to colour in to reinforce patterns of metals, non-metals and metalloids.

Resource collect to help students create a recycling campaign to encourage staff and students to be responsible with the resources they use. This was run as a 2hr activity for a Yr 7 science lesson to encourage group work and creative thinking. It worked extremely well with some excellent presentations taking place at the end of the second lesson. The planning sheet was blown up to A3. Excellent group activity to use after teaching about different forms of renewable energy. The original resources are from Practical Action website (thank you). I used this with 2 different Yr 7 classes (high and low ability) and both loved it and very engaged. How to run activity: Each group needs I community card, a set of renewable energy cards, a map and a worksheet. They then need to decide which renewable energy would be suitable for each of their villages. I get groups to present their ideas to rest of class and we then peer assess each others choices.

These were revision aids produced for our Yr 8 Chemical Models unit that covers Elements, Mixtures and Compounds, Metal reactions, displacement reactions and corrosion

This lesson was taught at the end of a topic on rocks and weathering. The Rock cycle was briefly talked about then students were given task sheet and image on Slide 10 of ppt to use in order to construct a comic strip of the life of Robbie the Rock - the students really got into this and produced some very funny cartons - all showed really good comprehension of cycle at the end with hardly any teacher input! Ideal!!

Powerpoint that goes through weathering - opportunities to get children to work out the three types with the use of a selection of photos - I got children to talk in pairs to come up with an explanation of how each set of photos could result in rocks being broken down - worked very well. Differentiated worksheets to sum up each process.
