I am an English teacher who specialises in the teaching of English Language. I currently teach KS3, KS4 and KS5, though spend most of my time teaching KS5. This is an extract from chapter 3 of the novel 'Great Expectations' in which Pip has his second encounter with the convict Magwitch. The extract includes comprehensive annotations along with additional spaces so that students can include their own interpretation to aid deeper analysis. A list of key evaluative and analytical vocabulary has also been added to support this. You could use this resource to work on close analysis language skills or close analysis perspective skill. It is aimed at top set students in KS4, though could be used to push the more able to achieve a grade 9 response through the use of the analytical and evaluative vocabulary on the resource.
