Using positive language is a feature of good classroom/behaviour management. This resource identifies both unhelpful phrases and statements and then a preferred way that uses positive language, that may initiate a better response from the student.

This Induction Programme Template identifies key areas of information and key personnel that new colleagues should become acquainted with in their first month of employment. Senior Leaders, Middle Managers and Line Managers should be supporting the induction process and ensuring that colleagues are well looked after, at what can sometimes be a worrying time for new staff.

When students are in isolation or have been excluded they need time to reflect upon their actions/behaviour. When a student returns from FTE they should have time after the Return from Exclusion Meeting, to discuss their behaviour with a key adult - this form provides the student with a number of questions to help their reflection. If a student is sent to isolation, there could be an expectation that they complete this reflection form before returning to mainstream lessons - its a resource that can be used in many ways.

A Learning Diary that enables any student or teacher the ability to monitor and track evidence of student work; this Learning Diary proved to be a very useful document in my School, to help record the successes of a student who could not engage fully in a mainstream curriculum. However, the student was an excellent citizen around the school, who developed his abilities through engagement of non-academic work which we needed to record. The Diary/Log can also be used in formal lesson for students to record evidence of their work - the format of the template allows for this flexibility.
