VE DAY LESSON AND ASSEMBLY
This resource was created to celebrate VE Day and is suitable for both primary and secondary school students. It can be used either as an assembly or a lesson or both.
The first half of the presentation can be used as an assembly (approx 20 mins) or as an introduction to a lesson. It contains images; clips and explanations of the aftermath of World War 2 and why we celebrate VE day. If you are going to use it as a lesson you would present the introduction and use the rest of the powerpoint for an inferences and modeled evaluative writing task which is included in the second part of the presentation.
The focus of the lesson is whether or not in light of the destruction caused in the Second World War we can really call it a ‘victory.’ The whole lesson would take approximately an hour to teach.
REMEMBERANCE DAY ASSEMBLY
This is a Key Stage 2 or 3 assembly for Remembrance Day. It begins with the story of two men who were recruited into the army to fight in the First World War - it focuses on their different fates. It then includes some WW1 poetry followed by the red/white poppy debate.
MEDICINE THROUGH TIME PRE-EXAMINATION REVISION LESSON
This lesson covers all of the questions for the GCSE EDEXCEL Medicine Through Time unit, and would be ideal to use for a last minute revision/intervention lesson with students. There are examples of each question-type with model paragraphs and opportunities for students to complete exam-style answers. Ideally this would last 2x1 hour lessons, but it can be reduced to one lesson.

This NEA which looks at the causes of the Bolshevik Revolution was awarded full marks, which was confirmed by AQA.
This can be used as an example of how to attain full marks, and would be especially useful for those schools using the NEA as part of the teacher assessed grades this year.

This lesson is suitable for an A Level Tudor unit of work. It uses both contemporary sources and interpretations, and is therefore suitable for all boards and all units. It fully resourced, and can be used with any examination board approved text book. It contains a range of varied activities and clips all designed to maximise performance at A Level.
In this lesson students will learn about:
The complexities of the succession after Edward VI, with reference to the claim of Lady Jane Grey
Edward’s role in naming a successor
The activities of Northumberland
The causal factors of Mary’s succession and the execution of Northumberland and Lady Jane Grey
The extent to which Jane Grey was a threat.

1 hour teaching plus 1 hour of activities (also optional documentary)

A LEVEL - WAS THERE A MID-TUDOR CRISIS? COMPLETE UNIT OF WORK
This bundle contains 14 A level lessons (approximately 22 hours duration) covering the whole of the Mid Tudor Crisis. They have been planned to meet the requirements of either AQA Unit C; OCR Unit 1: The Late Tudors; or EDEXCEL Unit 1B - use the appropriate questions and tasks. This unit can be taught with any supporting A Level officially approved text book, and is a fully resourced; detailed set of lessons which gradually build up to answering the question: ‘Was there a Mid-Tudor Crisis.’
Tasks include individual; paired; group and whole-class tasks, and are varied thus developing the students ability to evaluate both interpretations of history and contemporary source material, both vital for success at A Level. There are regular opportunities for examination-style practice, and the flexibility for individual teachers to add or delete activities/content as appropriate. There are also a number of links to key documentaries to either watch in class (would extend 22 hour duration of unit) or for students to watch at home, to extend learning.
HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY ASSEMBLY
This assembly has been created for Holocaust Memorial Day. It starts by putting into perspective the sheer number of people murdered in the genocide by focusing on the figure 6,000,000 in real terms. It then considers how intolerance; racism and prejudice escalates and eventually can lead to genocide - testimonies of survivors are used to capture this. Have we learnt from the Holocaust? No - map of genocides around the world since the Holocaust. The assembly then moves onto the theme of resistance - what happens when people don’t speak out - clip of Marin Niemoller’s poem. The assembly end with the discussion of what can happen when people do act resist with a focus on Oskar Schindler - last 5 minutes of Schindle’s list included so that students can reflect on how many lives can be saved when people bravely resist brutality.
Duration: 30 minutes, but can be adapted if you don’t have this much time.

The Atomic Bomb
This is a 22 slide power point which will take about 3 hours to complete.
It focuses on the questions surrounding the dropping of the atomic bomb. It contains a range of activities; sources and video clips with an extended assessment task at the end.
This answers the questions:
How does an atomic bomb work
What were the positives and negatives with regards to dropping the bomb
Why did the USA drop it?
I made this as part of a key stage 3 scheme of learning especially for students who are not continuing with history at GCSE so that they understand one of the most significant events of the twentieth century. This could also be used for the Superpower relations unit at GCSE.
GCSE SPAIN AND THE NEW WORLD PRE-EXAMINATION REVISION LESSON
This lesson was created as a last minute revision lesson for those students taking EDEXCEL GCSE History Spain and the New World unit.
It covers a range of topics and involves revision and practice of all of the different question types as a reminder of structure and assessment objectives.
Approx 2 hours to teach
GCSE MEDICINE THROUGH TIME. INDUSTRIAL PERIOD REVISION POWER POINT
This revision power point facilitates the revision of the whole of the Industrial period Medicine topic for EDEXCEL GCSE. It is divided into the relevant sections; contains all of the key knowledge for revision; thinking points and practice examination-style questions.
Duration: 3 hours approx
ANGLO-SAXON DISPLAY
This is a bright and colourful display of various aspects of Anglo-Saxon life. Each card can be blown up; laminated and displayed, and shows pictures and gives information about different aspects of Anglo-Saxon life.

GCSE HISTORY MIGRATION THROUGH TIME. KEY FEATURES OF NOTTING HILL REVISION CARDS
This resource contains a set of 20 revision cards answering 20 possible 4 marks questions from the EDEXCEL GCSE history breadth study - Migration through time. Each card has the answer written on it, and demonstrates where the marks are attained.
Cut them out and learn them for the exam.
MEDIEVAL MEDICINE WORDSEARCH AND QUIZ
This wordsearch tests student recall of key facts about medieval medicine and is useful as a starter/plenary or end of term fun revision activity for students studying medicine through time at GCSE. Students have to find the answers to 15 questions and then locate the words in a wordsearch.
A LEVEL MID TUDOR CRISIS. LESSON 7 THE KETT AND WESTERN REBELLIONS
This lesson continues the investigation into whether or not there was a Mid Tudor Crisis. It focuses on the analysis of the Kett and Western Rebellions, comparing them and evaluating how dangerous the year 1549 was for Edward VI. It contains a range of investigative material and considers both contemporary source material and interpretations of the rebellions. Students will be looking for more evidence to suggest whether or not there was a mid-Tudor crisis.
Students will learn about:
The causes of the Kett and Western Rebellions
The extent to which they posed a danger to Edward VI
Duration:
This is a long lesson and will probably require 2 hours to teach it, plus an hour of home learning to complete all of the activities. It can be used for all examination boards and is designed so that any examination board approved text book can be used to complete the activities.

Duration: 1 hour plus a considerable amount of home learning.
COMMUNISM VS CAPITALISM
This is a second resource (first one Atomic Bomb) that I have made for a year 9 SOLbut can also be used for GCSE.
It would take 2x1 hour lessons to deliver.
The first hour is about the situation in 1945 in Europe and an introduction to ideologies, The students are required to demonstrate their understanding of communism and capitalism through matching statements and images to the correct ideologies.
The second hour is a differentiated empathy game where the students take on the roles of characters in the USA and USSR and discuss their situation with each other filling in a grid as they go.

A LEVEL HISTORY - THE BATTLE OF BOSWORTH AND HENRY TUDOR'S CONSOLIDATION OF POWER
These lessons take approximately 5 hours to teach and are the introductory lessons to any A Level Tudors course, however were initially created for AQA Unit 1C. The resource is complete and contains all of the necessary resources for students to gain a good overview and detailed historiographical understanding into why Henry Tudor was able to gain power. They contain numerous activities all incorporated in the power point or as separate resources.
The whole of Henry VII section is also available as a bundle either with or without revision resources. Other bundles this resource is incorporated into are Henry VII and VIII, or Henry VII; Henry VIII and the Mid Tudors.
