I am new to the teaching of Citizenship and in the process I have devised a series of resources for myself and for students to help with getting to grips with exam style and the mark scheme for different questions. I have designed a placemat/ sheet to stick in student books that explain what each style of question is/ command words and marks awarded. I have created a separate sheet for the 8 mark question which allows students to use a writing frame and the mark scheme to produce a good 8 mark answer.

This lesson was a lesson I planned in response to students responses to a (d) question from the OXFORD textbook which stated 'There are more similarities than differences between Shi’a and Sunni Muslims’ The lesson is planned with lots of exam structure tips/ mats/ mark schemes etc. to plan the perfect (d) answer. Relevant slides would need to be printed and handed to the students . There's an around the room activity and opportunity for peer and self assessent Lesson outcomes: To identify key differences between Shi’ah and Sunni Muslims To understand why there are differences To evaluate the statement ‘There are more similarities than differences between Shi’a and Sunni Muslims’

A lesson that looks at different examples of forgiveness/ sources of authority etc. Complete with printable worksheets on the PowerPoint. The lesson ends in looking at answering a 4 and 12 mark answer along with models/ peer assessment/ differentiated worksheets etc. Outcomes: Must: Know what Christians teach about forgiveness Should: Explain :why Christians believe in forgiveness using biblical examples Could: Evaluate whether you agree with other’s opinions when talking about forgiveness

A visual task sheet with must/ should and could tasks to help students understand the principle of devolution

A lesson that looks at miracles and whether they happen using a biblical example. Students are encourages to assess a series of scenarios at the start of the lesson and depict which they think is a miracle. Students then are encouraged to define the word miracle. This then leads on to allow students to analyse a biblical miracle. YOU WILL NEED THE MOVE 'MIRACLE MAKER' and show the section which portrays the 'Raising of Jairus's daughter' OR you could find the story from the Bible.

A lesson designed to encourage students to explore what primary and secondary research are and their pros and cons. The lesson fits nicely as an introductory lesson to use when students start to plan and consider their own citizenship actions. There are worksheets and activities embedded onto the PowerPoint slides. It could potentially span two lessons. There are mini plenaries and suggested video clips with questions. The lesson ends on a few short 2 mark exam questions.

I designed this lesson to help students with the planning of their own actions for the independent project. In addition the lesson supports students in being able to develop their own ideas for the questions within paper 2 that ask students to assess their own project. The PowerPoint allows there to be a lot of class discussion and higher order thinking In addition a detailed worksheet is included where students can highlight the positives and negatives of different types of action - very useful for revision. Outcomes: To describe different ways people can become active citizens To explain the pros and cons of different actions To decide which types of action are most effective

A lesson that supports the new 9-1 AQA spec. A variety of activities (more than a lessons worth) lots of printable worksheets and discussion activities with suggested youtube clips. Students can also look at a model 5/5 answer and write their own response. Lesson Outcomes Must: Define what Christians mean by sin and salvation Should: Explain how the original sin links to explaining sin and salvation in Christianity Could: Evaluate whether everyone can be saved.

Within the PowerPoint you will find a slide that can be printed off as a worksheet for students for every topic explored within the Rights and Responsibilities Unit. Each slide contains a variety of activities from keyword searches to analysing key arguments. The sheets supplement the Hodder textbook by Mike Mitchell. In addition there's a revision lesson whereby students select suitable activities from keyword searches to 1 mark and 2 mark question answering. I have also included a quiz and the revision checklist This has been designed to support my Year 11 in their revision.

A creative lesson that allows students to understand what the word parable means and why Jesus used parables to teach moral messages. The lesson has clear activities and outcomes. Students are encouraged to research a parable (A selection from the Bible are attached) and explain what they have learnt from the parable (there are a choice of activities ranging from drama to a newspaper article). Students also have the option to rewrite their own parable and give a moral message.
