The Legend of Spud Murphy Reading Comprehension
I have used this resource with my year 2 group of Expected/Working At and Greater Depth/Working Above readers and the children have really enjoyed the tasks. The children call this their ‘selfie questions’ as they answer them independently after reading in pairs.
Each session is based on 8 pages from the book. The questions cover a range of different types including retrieval, inference, prediction and clarification and each ‘selfie’ sheet has two extension tasks.
This is a resource which could also be used with Year 3 readers as well.
George Marvellous Medicine Guided Reading Comprehension
I have used this resource with my Year 2 group of Working At/ Expected and Working Above/Greater Depth readers and the children have really enjoyed the tasks. The children call this their ‘selfie questions’ as they answer them independently.
This resource contains planning for the entire book. Each page is based on 5 pages from the book. The questions cover a range of different types including retrieval, inference, prediction and clarification and each ‘selfie’ sheet has an extension task
This is also a resource which could easily be used with Year 3 as well.
Handwriting morning starter slides
My students love these slides!
These slides are very useful for a slow start and are a way for children to practise their handwriting independently as they begin the school day.
I use these as children enter my classroom in dribs and drabs.
They copy each letter, word and sentence 3 times before writing their own independent sentences.
Year 2 Assembly Script Science (Animals including Humans)
This is a fun Science assembly for year 2. It has 1 catchy song and a fun poem with youtube links and one hymn for if you work in a Catholic or C of E school. It covers, what is a spine, the five vertebrate animals classification, carnivores, herbivores and omnivores, the importance of a balanced diet across the five food groups, and why hygiene is important .
There are so many opportunities for fun acting and miming in this script too depending on the ability of your class.
Hopefully it saves you some time for planning your own assemblies.

Adjective Mat bundle for KS1
This resource is one that I use often on my tables to encourage and build vocabulary in the children’s independent writing.
This resource contains 15 different word mats which focus on building language and vocabulary skills based on size, shape, time, personality traits and the 5 different senses. It does not just focus on the senses as a whole but also focuses on how we can further describe them, for example separate mats for unpleasant and pleasant smells along with positive and negative emotions.
These mats are both KS1 and KS2 friendly. They also use visuals to help reinforce which sense is being described.
These can be used independently, as part of a vocabulary, SPAG or English display, as part of a lesson or as an aid for independent work.

This resource is very useful when you have a slow start and the children are coming in in random waves. This resource has 20 slides and its enough for a month’s morning starter for a Year 2 class.
It has a Phase 5 handwriting focus and a simple maths focus of either place value, counting in 10’s or number bonds.
