For top set year 11 you could have higher numbers such as 96! This lesson covers what needs to be known about the Moon in Edexcel Astronomy 2.1-2.7. All key definitions are covered and the Lunar phases are used at the end to explain the changing way in which the Moon is perceived. A lunar phases worksheet is included. LO-to revise the differences between constructive and destructive waves This is a memory-based activity inspired by the popular party game ‘Kim’s game’. It is up to you how you use this resource: First, show the fully labelled diagram (slides 2+4 for higher ability and 3+5 for lower ability) with time to memorise. Then show it with one label missing and students have to write what’s missing on their mini whiteboard (kim’s game slides 11-26). Show the fully labelled diagram (slide2-5) on the board for them to memorise for a set amount of time before taking it off the board. Give everyone a blank copy of the diagram (slides 6-7). They then have to fill in as much as possible from memory. Could have an option to request a second view of the board but this would lose points. Could offer key words either verbally or written on the class whiteboard but also at a cost. To practise recall – use as a starter each lesson for a couple of weeks and reduce the time limit to view the fully labelled diagram each time until they can do it completely from memory. Slides 8-10 show possible AFL activities using mini whiteboards Suggestion – you can do this for any diagram based revision.

A very general worksheet asking students to consider the energy transition. Two simple tables that show how the different sources of electrical energy have changed in the last decade. Students have the opportunity to plot a graph and compare different energy sources. Then analyse how and why the price has changed, especially the price of renewable energies. This worksheet comes with answers.

This is a comprehensive and challenging pack for a class to work on as a mini project. It can be delivered as a couple of lessons by itself, or be used in conjunction with other resources. The most useful part of this pack is the varied and detailed worksheets on different forms of power generation.
