Edexcel Politics Alevel Lessons on Ideologies as a whole and Liberalism as a topic for the Edexcel 2017 spec. I teach Liberalism first because it makes MUCH more sense since it was developed first as an Ideology and Conservatism was a response to it. This bundle includes the first 7 lessons (2 hours each) intro and activities, Core Values with independent research (uses hand outs from Pearson and Haywood book) and Explanation of the Core Values but you could use some of the slides if you don’t have the textbook. Lesson 5 ends up developing a plan for the essay: To what extent do Liberals agree on the State? (24 marks) I taught these lessons to my Year 13 class and they worked really well for discussion. Also includes some embedded videos and worksheets. EDIT: I have now amended this resource and added some additional files. Hate teaching Electoral Systems? I used to as well- no matter how I taught them- students could never remember the differences and strengths and weaknesses. Edexcel Politics ALevel can be used for any spec- (Note may now be slightly out of date as the Mayoral elections have changed system) and list no longer used This resource was created after 10 years of frustration! It is designed to let students explore the different systems for themselves- engaging with the ballot forms and trying to work out how they work and the strengths and weaknesses for themselves. When I used this for the first time last year the students remembered the systems so much better than ever before and were able to evaluate them really well. Accompanying powerpoint and worksheets to go with the interactive ballot activity and card sort. This resource covers 5-6 hours of teaching on electoral systems including a detailed evaluation of FPTP and a comparison to other electoral systems as a legacy of the Jenkins commission. It covers most of the Elections topic just nothing on Referendums. All videos except one are embedded for your convenience- the other was too large! Edexcel GCSE Anglo Saxons and Norman England although can be used for other specs and adapted up for ALevel. Lesson on Revolt of the Norman Earls 1075 For GCSE Anglo Saxon and Norman England This lesson has all resources needed for teaching students about the Revolt of the Earls in 1075- ideally using the textbooks but all info is on slides if you don’t have them!

Edexcel Politics ALevel Specification from 2017 but can be used for AQA also if slightly adapted - Comparative USA/ UK Politics Mega planning grid with many different 12 markers for US Comparative Government (not the theory questions) which has a mixture of fully planned answers, partially planned answers and blank for students to plan as a revision tool. Includes all the past paper questions (12 markers) and recent and relevant examples (updated for 2023) for the ones which are planned. My students have found these grids really useful. Edexcel ALevel Politics spec but can be used for AQA as very similar. Lesson examining and analysing compartive Politics looking at various aspects of USA President and UK Prime Ministers including: -Role and Powers -Cabinets -Accountability to Legislatures/ Checks and balances -Styles of Government -RElationships between branches Also includes updated examples as of January 2024 including James Cleverly controversies and attempts to impeach Biden in US House due to increasing partisanship Includes little video clips to demonstrate examples or show comparisons and a full breakdown of the comparative theories for this topic. Includes a colour code to help students get used to understanding the different theories and how to apply them. Very detailed and no need for any additional resources although can be set as independent work with textbook but all info is contained within resources so no need to own the Bennett book- if you don’t have it ignore page references in the teacher notes. This lesson has a lot of resources, more than enough for 2 hours of lessons (probably 3 hours if you include video tasks) plus homework and there is a 12 mark exam question for Edexcel included.

Lesson inspired by Miranda Kaufmann’s Black Tudors book- stories of four inspiring Black individuals and what they can tell us about Black African people in Tudor England. This is also part of my unit of work on Tudor monarchs priced £6 for all the lessons if you would rather get more lessons on the Tudors for KS3. They are very high challenge and include a variety of retrieval tasks.

Edexcel GCSE lesson on Persecution of Minorities in Nazi Germany Includes detail of persecution of Slavs, Roma and Sinti Peoples, Jews, People living with disabilities/ mental illness and Homosexuals with some video clips and case studies. Also includes exam skills questions on Kristallnacht and a source skills modelling activity to teach inferences and how to write Q3 a, b, c and d questions for Paper 3 which students struggle with.

Edexcel GCSE History Weimar and Nazi Germany This booklet is designed to offer complete revision support to GCSE History students with the 2015- GCSE History spec for Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918-1939. The idea is to encourage independent revision rather than simply giving students all the information. It has tasks designed to improve recall and test knowledge as well as practice exam questions with tips and hints and mark schemes. It has activities for every part of each key topic -over 50 pages. Edexcel Politics ALevel (Can also be used for AQA) This is a batch of revision end of topic checklists AND glossary/ key word sheets for all topics: Constitution Congress Presidency/ Executive Supreme Court and Civil Rights Democracy and Elections including Political Parties I have created some topic checklists for each topic from the spec with key bullet points for students to traffic light their confidence including key words at the bottom. For US Presidency and Supreme Court/ Civil Rights I have also included key case studies as I know students struggle with these. ALevel lesson for OCR course Russia: 1894-1941 but can be used for any ALevel with a question about Stalin’s control/ purges or use of terror. This is an incredibly detailed lesson- my motto with ALevel is I do the reading so you don’t have to! I’ve read extensively and included a lot of detail within all the resources. Demonstrates turning points in Stalin’s rule e.g. the death of his wife and the 17th Party Congress and significance. Also includes key case studies e.g. the Ryutin Platform and impact. Examines the role of NKVD and various leaders including their purges! Includes Stalin’s purges of various sectors of Russian society and the Communist Party.

Useful for Senior Leadership Links and Heads of Department/ Faculty/ Key Stage. My department recently had a very positive experience in an Ofsted Deep Dive. I have attached some useful materials to help other Heads of Department to support the process and to support their teams in what could be (but doesn’t need to be) a stressful experience. Firstly it is important to know- this is not a quick fix- you cannot pull the wool over their eyes if your department has a lot of work to do. However it is not a problem if you have areas of development as long as you and your team know what they are and you have a plan to address them.
