The lesson begins with a Do Now, before practicing skills for the springboard essay where students are given an extract and need to complete an essay using the whole text. This lesson guides students to find key quotes from other parts of the play as well as annotating the extract given. Students are then given a mock exam question to practice. A fun and engaging lesson exploring foreshadowing using chapter 6 of The Hobbit. Throughout the course of the lesson students first need to select the correct definition of foreshadowing and discuss the meaning, before watching a clip from the Lion King and The Wizard of Oz and identify what event is being foreshadowed. After that, student 'popcorn read' chapter 6 of The Hobbit, identifying possible foreshadowing before analyzing a key extract (provided on the PowerPoint). This lesson can be used as part of an ongoing scheme, or can easily be adapted by removing slide 5 (the hobbit summary slide) to be a stand alone lesson. Excellent for high ability key stage 3 students. All resources, learning objectives and success criteria, videos and timers are included in the PowerPoint.

Following the structure, format and wording of the WJEC/EDUQAS literature exam paper, I have created a mock paper using The Manhunt by Simon Armitage for students to practice exam responses. Included in the resource is an essay planning sheet to help students consider their answer and time their writing.

A selection of 25 different, and differentiated homeworks to work around a Key Stage 3 scheme of work based on Robert Swindells Abomination. There is a selection of transactional writing, research tasks and short five minute tasks, as well as some comparative writing and analysis of short animations.

To tackle the lack of enthusiasm about homework in my school I created a menu of homework. This one targets key stage 4 and assists teaching of A Chrstmas Carol by Charles Dickens. There are 25 homeworks already planned, differentiated by 'spice'. Since using these menus, where the students pick for themselves, the amount and quality of homework has improved.

A full lesson including powerpoint, learning objectives, success criteria and resources. A fun and engaging way of exploring the cratchits in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The lesson starts with a 'Christmas Carol Crossword' where they need to identify and recall the family members' names, before moving on to extract analysis. The first extract is modelled already on the powerpoint, but this can easily be removed and embedded timers are on the slides already. Think, Pair, Share opportunities are in the lesson too, with students needing to match up the quote to the description of how Bob Cratchit feels (slide 6 and 7-this will need printing). I have taught this lesson to three different classes and all classes have showed rapid progress and a real engagement in the lesson.

A very useful visual revision aide for students completing the Eduqas/WJEC English GCSE. A thematic grid to outline which poems have the most links, and are therefore more likely to come up on the GCSE paper. Colour coded by theme, easily outlined and a great starting point for revision.
